Job description

The FutureGeneration of Resilient and Infrastructure Design Technology Hub (FutureGRID TecH) at New York University Abu Dhabi is seeking to recruit one or more motivated postdoctoral associates (or research scientists with at least 5 years of post-PhD experience). Candidates will work under the supervision of Dr. Mohamed Moustafa to conduct cutting-edge research in the area of future structures and resilient infrastructure systems, focusing on applications of emerging technologies. Key research areas include:

1. Advanced construction and reinforcement materials (UHPC, ECC, SMA)
2. UHPC mix development, material characterization, modeling, and structural design
3. Structural 3D printing (metals, concrete, and composites)
4. Computational mechanics and structural topology optimization
5. Vision-based structural health monitoring
6. Autonomous and drone-based infrastructure inspection and vibration monitoring

Applicants must hold a PhD in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or Material Engineering. Degrees in related fields such as Computer Science, Nuclear Engineering, or Material Science are also considered. Essential qualifications include strong communication skills, a record of peer-reviewed publications, and experience mentoring undergraduate or graduate students. Additional qualifications that are advantageous include:

• Training or certification in areas like additive manufacturing, machine learning, AI, computer vision, robotics, UAVs, or CFD
• Programming expertise (preferably Python and C, GUI development)
• Experience in computational mechanics, finite element modeling, and multiscale experimental testing

The successful candidates will work in a multidisciplinary environment, conducting innovative experimental, analytical, and computational research, publishing in scientific journals and conferences, mentoring students, and participating in grant writing.
