Job description

Job Description

The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) invites applications for a post-doctoral fellow position starting April 2024 to work on a research project in sustainable concrete technology.

The candidate will collaborate with faculty investigators in advanced research areas, including:

  1. Using Microbial-Induced Calcite Precipitation (MICP) to enhance recycled concrete durability and sustainability.
  2. Material characterization and microstructure analysis of innovative concrete materials.
  3. Optimized mixture proportioning for sustainable and high-performance concrete.
  4. Experimental performance evaluation of concrete structures under environmental and mechanical loading.
  5. Life cycle assessment (LCA) integration in sustainable concrete solutions.

Minimum Qualification

Suitable candidates MUST have:

  1. A PhD in civil engineering.
  2. Documented evidence (thesis, journal articles, etc.) of relevant experience in the field of concrete technology (material characterization, mixture proportioning, performance, and microstructure characterization) and MICP.

A PhD degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on MICP and concrete technology or sustainable construction materials. Candidates with a Master’s degree and a strong track record of publishing in high-impact journals are welcome to apply.

Preferred Qualification

Demonstrated expertise in Microbial-Induced Calcite Precipitation (MICP) for concrete applications, including experimental implementation and performance analysis. Proven experience in:

  1. Developing and characterizing sustainable concrete materials.
  2. Conducting advanced microstructural analysis using imaging and spectroscopy techniques.
  3. Performing experimental tests on concrete properties and durability.

Special Instructions to Applicant

  • A detailed CV emphasizing research experience in concrete and MICP.
