Job description

Under the direct supervision of the Shift Supervisor and general supervision of the Plant Operations Manager, the Plant Operator is responsible for activities in the safe and environmentally sound operation of overhead cranes on the tipping floor / pit. This includes lifting, moving, and mixing municipal solid waste (MSW) and construction and demolition waste using hoisting attachments such as a grapple or auxiliary hoist mechanisms like hooks or slings. The goal is to feed fuel and MSW to boilers, mix the fuel in the refuse pit for homogeneous fuel, and move loads to and from the charging deck. The operator also assists Control Room Operators in daily plant operations and conducts regular plant inspections.

1.2 Job Responsibilities
  • Perform frequent field rounds during shifts to assess equipment and report abnormalities.
  • Conduct daily inspections of overhead cranes and complete log sheets as per procedures.
  • Troubleshoot crane issues and report malfunctions through work orders.
  • Perform checks as required by operational checklists.
  • Operate crane controls to regulate movement based on instructions.
  • Assist the Control Room Operators in plant operations and inspections.
  • Perform lockout/tagout procedures for maintenance support.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness around cranes and hoists.
  • Notify supervisors of defects and log them into the CMMS system.
  • Perform additional tasks as directed by supervisors.
  • Safely shut down and restart plant operations following procedures.
  • Participate in HSE inspections, audits, and meetings.
  • Conduct risk assessments and hazard identification.
  • Coordinate with maintenance teams for planned and unplanned activities.
  • Report breaches of HSE procedures promptly.
  • Promote health, safety, and environmental policies and initiatives.
  • Support installation emergency response efforts.

Manage plant operation and emission data, maintain safety and efficiency, and provide training to subordinates.

  • HSE accredited training qualifications
1.4 Job Experience

Minimum of 2 years relevant industry experience or equivalent, with successful completion of crane operation demonstrations, familiarity with HSE standards, and passing oral and written exams. Previous overhead crane operation and maintenance experience may allow a one-month completion period for demonstrations.
