Job summary

Tanqeeb in the United Arab Emirates seeks an experienced workshop supervisor to manage maintenance for heavy plant, equipment and commercial vehicles. You will lead a small workshop team, plan intervals, diagnose faults and oversee repairs to keep assets in safe, reliable condition.

Qualifications

• Trade certificate or diploma in mechanical engineering, plant maintenance or heavy equipment maintenance.
• Minimum six years maintaining heavy plant, equipment or commercial vehicles, with at least two in leading a small workshop team.
• Hydraulic systems: fault diagnosis, hose and cylinder repair, pump and valve replacement.
• Diesel engines and drivetrains: diagnosis, service and overhaul.
• Welded and fabricated repair to plant structures, attachments and wear parts.
• Planned maintenance run to interval, with a service and defect record kept against each asset.
• Safety training appropriate to a workshop, and practiced competence in isolation and lock-out, safe lifting and jacking, and hot work.
• A valid United Arab Emirates driving license.
• Spoken and written English sufficient for service records and a mixed-nationality team.

Responsibilities

• The maintenance schedule: plans service intervals for every plant item and vehicle against running hours, mileage and manufacturer requirements.
• Breakdown response and repair: ranks defects by safety and urgency, diagnoses fault, and returns machines to tested working condition.
• Directs the trades in the workshop: assigns daily tasks, reviews performance, and trains the team on new workshop equipment.
• Decides what the workshop holds to hand and raises replenishment requests for parts and consumables.
• Presents plant for periodic inspections and rectifies issues raised, ensuring certificates remain valid.
• Keeps records of service history, defect history and certifications for each asset.

Job description

• The maintenance schedule. Plans the service interval for every plant item and vehicle the Company holds, against running hours, mileage and the manufacturer's requirement, and brings each machine in when it falls due. Sets the schedule around the work the operating functions have in hand, so a machine is off the job no longer than its service takes.

• Breakdown response and repair. Takes in every defect reported from the yard, the site and the road, ranks it by safety and by the urgency of the work the machine is on, and puts it to the bench. Diagnoses the fault, decides the repair, and sees the machine through to a tested working condition.

• The trades in the workshop. Directs the mechanics and electricians at the bench: the day's assignments, the standard each job is finished to, and the check before it is closed. Sets objectives, reviews performance, plans shift cover. and trains the team on plant new to the workshop.

• Spares and consumables at the bench. Decides what the workshop holds to hand (filters, oils, belts, hoses, seals, fasteners, welding consumables) and raises the requests that replenish it. Specifies the part a repair needs, draws it against the machine it is fitted to, and states what must be bought where the workshop does not hold it.

• Inspection and statutory examination. Presents plant for the periodic inspections and third-party examinations its class requires, including lifting equipment, pressure systems and registered vehicles, and rectifies what an examination raises. Holds out of service any machine whose certificate has lapsed.

Workshop safety and housekeeping. Runs the workshop as a safe place of work: machines isolated before work starts, loads supported on rated equipment, guards fitted, hot work controlled, and waste oil and chemicals disposed of properly. Briefs the team before any job carrying particular risk, and stops a job being worked unsafely.

• The daily schedule of the pool. Schedules the vehicle and plant pool day by day against the requests the operating functions make of it, and issues the day's schedule to them. Settles which function has an asset where two request the same one on the same day and takes contention the schedule cannot settle to its manager.

• The record of each machine. Records against every asset of what was done to it, when, by whom, with which parts and at what hours or mileage. Keeps service history, defect history and certification complete, so the condition of a machine can be read from its record. Reports the machines that fail repeatedly.
