Summary:
The Planning Engineer for
an Infrastructure Works Project is responsible for developing
implementing and maintaining the projects schedule to ensure that
all aspects of the project are completed on time and within budget.
This role involves coordinating with project teams contractors and
stakeholders to track progress identify potential delays and
mitigate risks. The Planning Engineer will be responsible for
creating detailed project timelines monitoring progress updating
schedules and providing regular reports to management to ensure
project objectives are achieved
efficiently.

Duties:
- Project
Scheduling &
Planning:- Develop maintain and
update the detailed project schedule incorporating all phases of
the infrastructure works including design procurement construction
and commissioning. - Create and manage timelines
for critical path activities ensuring that milestones are clearly
defined and achievable. - Collaborate with
project managers and stakeholders to identify key project
deliverables deadlines and resource
requirements.
- Progress
Monitoring &
Reporting:- Monitor the progress
of the project comparing actual performance against the planned
schedule and identify potential delays or
issues. - Prepare regular progress reports for
senior management contractors and clients highlighting project
milestones delays and any corrective actions
required. - Track and report on project
performance metrics including project timelines resource allocation
and budget
performance.
- Resource
Management &
Allocation:- Coordinate the
allocation of resources (labor materials and equipment) to ensure
that all activities are appropriately resourced for the successful
execution of the project. - Identify and report
on resource shortages or overutilization making recommendations to
optimize the allocation and use of resources across the
project.
- Risk
Management & Delay
Analysis:- Identify potential
project risks and delays that could impact the project schedule and
work with the project team to develop mitigation
strategies. - Perform delay analysis and provide
reports on the impact of delays on project timelines recommending
corrective actions to mitigate further
risks.
- Schedule
Optimization & Recovery
Plans:- Proactively identify
schedule optimization opportunities to improve project timelines
without compromising quality or safety. - Develop
and implement recovery plans to get the project back on track when
schedule delays occur including the reallocation of resources or
adjustment of work
sequences.
- Stakeholder
Coordination &
Communication:- Communicate with
contractors subcontractors and other stakeholders to ensure that
they are aligned with the project schedule and
milestones. - Coordinate with project teams to
ensure that dependencies and interactions between different project
disciplines are efficiently managed and incorporated into the
overall
schedule.
- Change
Management & Schedule
Updates:- Assist in managing
changes to the project scope and incorporate these changes into the
project schedule ensuring proper documentation of any
variations. - Update the project schedule based
on approved changes and monitor the impact of scope changes on the
overall
timeline.
- Critical
Path Analysis &
Evaluation:- Identify the critical
path of the project and closely monitor the progress of critical
activities to ensure the project stays on
schedule. - Analyze any deviations from the
critical path and recommend corrective actions to mitigate delays
and ensure timely project
completion.
- Cost
Control & Budget
Monitoring:- Work closely with the
cost control team to monitor and track project budgets in relation
to the project schedule. - Assist in forecasting
project costs based on the schedule and make recommendations for
cost-saving measures if
necessary.
- Documentation
& Record
Keeping:- Maintain accurate and
up-to-date records of project schedules changes and updates for
audit and compliance purposes. - Ensure that all
project documentation is organized and accessible including
schedule updates progress reports and change
orders.
- Final
Project Handover:- Ensure that the
project schedule is updated for final handover incorporating all
completed activities outstanding work and final
documentation. - Work with the project team to
ensure that the handover process is completed on time and that all
deliverables are met in accordance with the final
schedule.
- Continuous
Improvement & Professional
Development:- Stay current with
industry best practices new planning tools and scheduling software
to improve the efficiency and accuracy of project
planning. - Provide recommendations for process
improvements to enhance project scheduling and planning on future
projects.
Qualifications
:
- Bachelors
degree in Engineering Construction Management or related field with
a minimum of 10 years experience in project planning and scheduling
for large-scale construction or infrastructure
projects. - Proficient in Primavera P6 Project
Management Software and other relevant project management
tools. - Strong analytical skills with in-depth
knowledge of FIDIC contracts Work Breakdown Structures and risk
management techniques. - Experience in handling
claims Extensions of Time (EOT) requests and conducting forensic
schedule analysis. - Excellent communication
skills with the ability to present complex information clearly and
work effectively in a team
environment. - Proficiency in Microsoft Office
suite particularly Excel and
PowerPoint. - Experience in technical tender
evaluations and bid analysis. - Knowledge of
industry-standard Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and progress
measurement techniques. - Project management
(e.g. PMP PRINCE2) or planning (e.g. PMI-SP) certification is
highly
desirable.
