Job summary

NMC Royal Hospital Sharjah is seeking a pharmacist to ensure safe prescription review, accurate medication dispensing, and comprehensive patient care within a hospital setting.

The role involves collaboration with physicians, nurses, and staff to optimize therapy, manage drug interactions, teach trainees, and uphold MOH rules and hospital policies while addressing diverse patient needs.

Responsibilities

  • Check outpatient prescriptions for errors and safety for the individual patient.
  • Review prescriptions issued by physicians to assure accuracy and determine formulas and ingredients.
  • Monitor posting to patient profiles to ensure accuracy, allergies, interactions, duplicate therapy, and rational drug therapy.
  • Perform all aspects of patient care to optimize patient safety and reduce medical/health care errors.
  • Provide information to physicians, nurses, patients and other healthcare professionals on medication use, interactions, side effects, dosage and storage.
  • Assist in teaching programs (departmental, medical, nursing, community).
  • Ensure maintenance and proper operation of equipment and supplies in work areas.
  • Understand dosage variations between newborn, pediatric, adult and geriatric patients and where to find information.
  • Treat patients and families with respect and dignity, addressing psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs.
  • Assist the Chief of Pharmaceutical Services on special assignments.
  • Assist the Chief of Pharmaceutical Services with responsibilities aligned with the organization’s mission and laws.
  • Demonstrate ability to apply mathematical operations to dosage calculations, preparation formulations and data analysis.
  • Demonstrate ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions and abstract variables.
  • Answer questions about medicines from within the hospital, other hospitals and the public.
  • Follow insurance companies’ policies and procedures.

  • Follow MOH rules and regulations.
  • Monitor the nearing expiry / expired items in order to dispose them according to the policy.
  • Responsible for completion of third-party insurance forms and other paperwork.
  • 24 hours coverage duty to cover emergency department needs of urgent medicines.
  • Assure the accuracy of every prescription processed.
