Job Description

Responsible for working closely with cardiac surgeons; operate and maintain Extracorporeal Circulation Systems during cardiac operations. Responsible for related duties including Counterpulsation, Hemofiltration, and Autotransfusion.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities of the role

Operating the Heart Lung Machine and Performing Related Duties

  • Coordinate and participate in setting up and operating extracorporeal circulation to achieve conditions such as bypass, coronary perfusion, and reperfusion, managing patients’ vital circulatory functions during surgery.
  • Maintain a continuous supply of blood in the extracorporeal system and make adjustments to blood content, temperature, or balance as directed.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work, including Counterpulsation, Hemofiltration, Autotransfusion.

Maintenance of Equipment

  • Supervise and participate in disassembly, cleaning, and routine maintenance of equipment to ensure proper functioning.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment; reorder as required.

Documentation

Prepare and maintain records related to equipment functioning and procedures performed.

SEHA Compliance guidelines

  • Comply with policies, procedures, and practices of SEHA facilities and other regulatory requirements.
  • Complete and maintain regulatory requirements, including licensure, certification, and mandatory training within established time frames.

Maintaining Confidentiality

Maintain confidentiality regarding any information exchanged or received in this role, in accordance with facility policy.

Promoting Customer Service standards

  • Act as a brand ambassador for the facility, promoting a customer-focused approach in dealings with stakeholders.
  • Maintain positive and effective working relationships within the department and with other departments.

Additional Duties

  • Perform any other duties relevant to the responsibilities of the role.

Adhering to Occupational Health and Safety, Materials Management, and Maintenance standards

  • Follow occupational health and safety guidelines and infection control protocols.
  • Understand and adhere to emergency preparedness plans and policies.

Ensuring Personal Effectiveness

  • Continuously develop skills and acquire additional knowledge relevant to the position.
  • Dress appropriately as per work area standards and occupational health and safety policies.
  • Build key partnerships within the organization for comprehensive, client-centered care.
  • Comply with regulations related to mentoring, training, and developing UAE national staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Cardiac Perfusion or a related science subject, plus postgraduate diploma/certificate in Perfusion.
  • Current national license and registration with the Society of Perfusionists of Great Britain and Ireland or the European Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion.
  • At least two (2) years of practical experience post-qualification in a health setting.
  • Proof of performing at least one hundred (100) clinical perfusions independently.
