Summary

The Consultant in Pediatric Orthopedics (Scoliosis Specialist) provides expert care for children with spinal deformities and complex musculoskeletal conditions. The role focuses on diagnosing, managing, and performing surgical and non‑surgical treatments for scoliosis and related disorders. The consultant works within a multidisciplinary team to deliver high‑quality, patient‑centered care, contribute to research and teaching, and support the hospital’s mission as a leading center for pediatric specialty services.

Education/Qualification:
  1. Basic medical degree from recognized institution
  2. Post-qualification certification
    • Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.
      • USA: American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)
      • Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Certificate (FRCPC)
      • UK and Ireland: GMC/CCST Specialist Register
      • Australia and New Zealand: Fellowship from the Royal College (FRACP)
Experience:
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience post-board/equivalent certification in Austria, Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland (CCST), United Kingdom (CCT) Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden OR Switzerland,
    • Sub‑Specialties: Minimum of two (2) years of experience post-sub-specialty certification in Austria, Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, or the UK.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience after obtaining the main specialty qualification in United Kingdom (CESR) Portugal, Spain, or Italy
    • Sub‑Specialties: Minimum of four (4) years of experience after obtaining the sub-specialty qualification in Portugal, Spain, or Italy.
License:
  • Current and in a Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Diagnose and manage spinal deformities in children, with a focus on scoliosis and related orthopedic conditions.
  • Perform surgical and non-surgical interventions, including spinal fusion, growth modulation, and bracing strategies.
  • Evaluate patients through clinical assessments, imaging studies, and diagnostic tests to guide treatment planning.
  • Develop individualized care plans in collaboration with families and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Provide perioperative care, including preoperative evaluation, surgical planning, and postoperative follow‑up.
  • Collaborate with pediatric neurosurgeons, physiatrists, anesthesiologists, and rehabilitation specialists for comprehensive patient care.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary clinics and case discussions for complex spinal deformities.
  • Mentor and train residents, fellows, and junior medical staff in pediatric orthopedic surgery.
  • Contribute to ongoing research, clinical trials, and publications in the field of pediatric spinal deformities.
  • Lead or participate in hospital committees focused on quality improvement, patient safety, and clinical guidelines in orthopedics.
  • Maintain accurate medical documentation in compliance with hospital standards and UAE regulations.
  • Support patient and family education by explaining diagnoses, treatment options, risks, and expected outcomes clearly.
