Job Overview

The Consultant - Pediatric Orthopaedics will provide specialized surgical and non‑surgical care for infants, children and adolescents with congenital deformities, musculoskeletal disorders, traumatic injuries, spinal conditions and complex orthopaedic problems. The role requires advanced expertise in pediatric orthopaedic trauma, deformity correction, reconstructive surgery and multidisciplinary rehabilitation. This opportunity is being recruited through Dubai for a healthcare position based in Abu Dhabi, and the selected surgeon must satisfy Department of Health Abu Dhabi requirements for consultant‑level licensure and clinical practice.

Responsibilities
  • Assess, diagnose and manage congenital, developmental, traumatic and acquired pediatric orthopaedic conditions.
  • Treat scoliosis, hip disorders, limb‑length discrepancies, foot deformities, fractures, sports injuries and neuromuscular musculoskeletal conditions.
  • Perform pediatric orthopaedic trauma surgery, deformity correction, reconstructive procedures and other specialist interventions.
  • Conduct comprehensive inpatient and outpatient consultations for infants, children and adolescents.
  • Evaluate and manage pediatric musculoskeletal emergencies, acute fractures, growth‑plate injuries and complex trauma cases.
  • Review diagnostic imaging, laboratory findings, gait assessments and functional evaluations to support treatment decisions.
  • Develop individualized surgical, non‑surgical and rehabilitation plans based on the child’s condition, development and functional needs.
  • Provide conservative treatments including casting, bracing, splinting, rehabilitation and structured clinical monitoring where appropriate.
  • Perform pre‑operative assessments and explain surgical risks, expected outcomes, recovery requirements and alternative treatment options.
  • Monitor postoperative recovery, wound healing, mobility, pain control and rehabilitation progress.
  • Collaborate with pediatricians, neurologists, radiologists, anesthesiologists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and rehabilitation teams.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary care for children with cerebral palsy, spina bifida, muscular disorders and other complex conditions.
  • Educate parents and caregivers about diagnoses, treatment options, postoperative care, mobility support and rehabilitation requirements.
  • Maintain accurate consultation notes, operative reports, consent records, treatment plans and follow‑up documentation.
  • Comply with Department of Health Abu Dhabi regulations, hospital policies, ethical standards and clinical governance requirements.
  • Follow infection prevention, patient safety, surgical checklist and quality assurance protocols.
  • Participate in clinical audits, morbidity and mortality meetings, case reviews and service improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to medical education, resident supervision, multidisciplinary teaching and continuing professional development.
  • Support clinical research, scientific publications and evidence‑based pediatric orthopaedic practice.
Qualifications (Ideal Profile)
  • MBBS, MD or equivalent medical qualification from a recognised institution.
  • Board certification or fellowship in Orthopaedic Surgery.
  • Accredited subspecialty training or fellowship in Pediatric Orthopaedics.
  • Valid Department of Health Abu Dhabi Consultant License or Eligibility Letter in Orthopaedic Surgery.
  • Minimum 5‑7 years of post‑board consultant experience in Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery.
  • Previous experience in a tertiary care hospital, children’s hospital, trauma centre or academic medical institution.
  • Advanced expertise in pediatric orthopaedic trauma, congenital deformities, limb reconstruction and corrective surgery.
  • Strong knowledge of child development, growth‑plate injuries, pediatric biomechanics and age‑appropriate treatment planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex surgical and non‑surgical pediatric orthopaedic cases.
  • Excellent operative judgment, technical proficiency and postoperative management skills.
  • Strong communication abilities for working sensitively with children, parents, caregivers and clinical teams.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary pediatric healthcare services.
  • Commitment to patient‑centred care, informed consent, safeguarding, confidentiality and clinical excellence.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural healthcare environment.

  • Experience in pediatric spinal surgery and complex scoliosis management.
  • Expertise in limb reconstruction, limb‑lengthening procedures and advanced deformity correction.
  • Experience treating neuromuscular orthopaedic conditions and developmental disabilities.
  • Exposure to integrated pediatric rehabilitation, gait analysis and mobility programmes.
  • Participation in pediatric orthopaedic research, academic teaching or peer‑reviewed publications.
