Summary

The Consultant in Pediatric Hematology provides expert assessment, diagnosis, and management of blood disorders and hematological conditions affecting infants, children, and adolescents.

Education / Qualification

Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.

  • Basic medical degree from recognized institution
  • Arabic Speaker is an advantage
  • Post-qualification certification
    • USA: American Board of Pediatric Hematology Oncology (PHO)
    • Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Certificate in Pediatric Hematology Oncology (FRCPC)
    • UK and Ireland: GMC/CCST Specialist Register in Pediatric Hematology Oncology
    • Australia and New Zealand: Fellowship from the Royal College in Pediatric Hematology Oncology (FRACP)
Experience
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience post-board/equivalent certification in Austria, Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland (CCST), United Kingdom (CCT) Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden OR Switzerland,
  • Sub-Specialties: Minimum of two (2) years of experience post-sub-specialty certification in Austria, Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, or the UK.
License
  • Current and in a Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and manage infants, children, and adolescents with benign and malignant hematological disorders, including anemia, hemoglobinopathies, bleeding and clotting disorders, bone marrow failure syndromes, and pediatric hematologic malignancies.
  • Conduct comprehensive clinical assessments, review medical histories, perform physical examinations, and formulate differential diagnoses and treatment plans.
  • Interpret and evaluate laboratory investigations, bone marrow studies, coagulation profiles, transfusion requirements, genetic testing, and other specialized hematology diagnostics.
  • Develop and manage individualized treatment plans, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, blood product support, anticoagulation therapy, and other hematology-specific interventions as appropriate.
  • Prescribe, review, and monitor medications and blood products in accordance with DOH and hospital guidelines.
  • Provide consultation services to pediatric inpatient units, emergency departments, intensive care units, neonatal units, and other specialties within SEHA Health System.
  • Accept and manage referrals from emergency services, inpatient units, outpatient clinics, primary care providers, and external hospitals.
  • Lead inpatient ward rounds and outpatient clinics; review, reassess, and follow up on patients receiving hematology care.
  • Perform and supervise hematology-related procedures as appropriate, including bone marrow aspiration and biopsy.
  • Monitor treatment outcomes, complications, and disease progression, modifying management plans as clinically indicated.
  • Work closely with pediatricians, oncologists, pathologists, transfusion medicine specialists, geneticists, nurses, pharmacists, and allied health professionals to deliver coordinated multidisciplinary care.
  • Communicate clearly with patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment options, prognosis, potential complications, and follow-up plans.
  • Provide counseling, education, and support to patients and families throughout diagnosis, treatment, and long‑term follow‑up.
  • Promote a collaborative, team‑based approach to patient care within a multicultural healthcare environment.
  • Supervise and oversee the clinical work of junior doctors, residents, fellows, and medical students.
  • Provide clinical teaching, case discussions, and mentorship to junior medical staff and trainees.
  • Participate in peer review, multidisciplinary meetings, morbidity and mortality reviews, and performance management activities.
  • Contribute to the development of clinical pathways, treatment protocols, hematology programs, and service improvement initiatives within SEHA Health System.
  • Assist with recruitment, orientation, credentialing, and professional development of medical staff as required.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive clinical documentation in accordance with hospital and DOH standards.
  • Comply with hospital policies, informed consent requirements, patient safety standards, infection control measures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in quality improvement projects, clinical audits, research activities, safety reporting, and incident reviews to support continuous improvement in patient care.
