An Operating Theatre (OT) Nurse, also known as a Perioperative Nurse, plays a crucial role in surgical procedures by working closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure operations run smoothly. These specialized nurses understand the intricacies of surgical instrumentation and assist in creating a sterile and controlled environment for every procedure. They are responsible for preparing patients for surgery, which includes reviewing medical histories, ensuring informed consent is obtained, and providing emotional support to ease patient anxieties. OT Nurses must also possess in-depth knowledge of infection control, maintain the integrity of the sterile field, and manage surgical equipment and supplies efficiently.
