Job Overview
This is a guest facing role which ensures smooth and efficient delivery of the experience for all guests who visit Yas Waterworld. This position ensures guest safety by managing subordinate staff, responding to emergencies, ensuring efficient operation of rides and attractions, giving clear directions and instructions, attending on-going training and maintaining essential swimming, lifeguarding, and basic life support skills.
Job Scope
- Manages a team of front-line colleagues to include their on the job training, daily attendance, grooming, coaching, appraisals and personal development plans
- Schedule, break and if required rotate colleagues fairly in order to ensure position coverage, increased productivity as well as maintaining colleagues’ well-being
- Task train colleagues in the safe operation of equipment and to follow departmental policies and procedures
- Coach and discipline colleagues in a fair and consistent manner in order to motivate and improve performance
- Conduct colleague performance appraisals in a timely, fair and constructive manner in order to promote their personal and career growth
- Assign and delegate tasks as required and follow-up
- Ensure that all safety rules and procedures are being adhered to at all times
- Ensure that policies, procedures and performance standards that are in place in the department are being adhered to
- Ensure a clean and safe operating environment and raise any defects to their managers attention
- Conduct communication briefings as required
- Ensure all departmental checklists (i.e. opening and closing checklists) are being consistently completed, any required follow-up action is initiated, and forms/records are being filed appropriately
- Deal with any internal or external customer requests and issues that are beyond the scope of their front-line colleagues
- Perform pre-operational inspections of rides, slides and attractions and communicate any items of note.
- Manage daily operation of assigned sections of the park, including Lifeguard and Guest Relations Officer supervision
- Work at heights, in water, and in extreme temperatures, outside, year-round
- Ensure that all manufacturer guidelines and SOPs regarding ride dispatch and guest safety are followed
- Serve as a first responder in the emergency action plan
- Conduct safety audits daily and record results as directed
- Ride all rides, slides and attractions as required for operational purposes
- Ensure Guest, Colleagues and contractor safety at all times
- Follow all manufacturer guidelines and SOPs regarding ride dispatch and Guest safety
- Work nights, evenings, and/or holidays
- Smile and be friendly
- Address large groups of people
- Any other related duties as assigned by the department
Job Essential
- 20/25 vision, corrected or uncorrected
- Previous Guest Service experience
- Swim 200 meters, non-stop, using front crawl or breaststroke
- Retrieve a 10-pound brick from the deepest water in Yas Waterworld (5 meters)
- Tread water for 2 minutes without using arms
- Maintain test-ready lifeguard skills in accordance with the International Lifeguard Training Program.
- Basic written and spoken English proficiency
Job Desirables
- International Lifeguard Training Program or similar program experience
- Swimming experience
- UAE Driver’s License/Buggy License
- SCUBA certification
- Group Training Techniques and/or Task Training Techniques certification
- Previous lifeguard experience
- Previous waterpark or theme park experience
- Intermediate or excellent spoken and written English skills
- Basic or advanced spoken Arabic skills
- Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint proficiency
