Could you be the full-time onsite Central Control Operator in Dubai, United Arab Emirates we’re looking for?

Your future role

Take on a new challenge and apply your detail-oriented and safety-focused expertise in a new cutting-edge field. You’ll work alongside diligent, collaborative, and proactive teammates. You'll ensure the highest standards of safety and efficiency as the Central Control Operator for our Dubai Automated People Mover (APM) system. Day-to-day, you’ll work closely with teams across the business (including train operators, maintenance teams, and emergency services), supervise and coordinate automated train movements, and much more.

We’ll look to you for:

Safety Management:

  1. Ensure the safety of passengers and staff by adhering to all safety protocols and procedures.
  2. Monitor system operations to identify and address potential safety hazards promptly.
  3. Conduct regular safety checks and audits in compliance with the rule book and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Mainline Operations:

  1. Supervise and coordinate schedule regulations to meet scheduling objectives.
  2. Maintain balanced headways in accordance with service schedules.
  3. Manage service build-ups/reductions.
  4. Control access to mainline territory and control mainline automatic/manual train movements.
  5. Implement Work Authorization Procedures for mainline ATC territory in compliance with established access rules and procedures.
  6. Utilize multiple systems and controls for the safe operation on site and permit area.
  7. Understand operations of power distribution, PA/PIS, building management, and access control systems.
  8. Manage Traction Power Sub Station to 750 VDC system and monitor for alarms.
  9. Be responsible for all incoming telephone communications, emergency communications, and requests for immediate/routine station maintenance or service, inquiries from train and station PA announcements.
  10. Contact and coordinate emergency services in response to emergencies on the system.

Communication:

  1. Maintain clear and effective communication with train operators, maintenance teams, and other stakeholders via radio and other communication tools.
  2. Provide timely updates and reports to the Operations Manager and other relevant parties.
  3. Facilitate stakeholder communication to ensure smooth coordination and resolution of issues.

System Monitoring and Control:

  1. Monitor the APM system using control room equipment and software.
  2. Understanding of basic signalling and exposure to the CBTC system is preferred.
  3. Respond to system alerts and anomalies, taking appropriate action to maintain service continuity.
  4. Coordinate with maintenance teams to address technical issues and ensure minimal disruption to operations.

Permit to Work:

  1. Manage the Permit to Work (PTW) system, ensuring all maintenance and repair activities are authorized and conducted safely.
  2. Verify that all PTW documentation is complete and accurate before issuing permits.
  3. Lead the implementation of power shutdowns and follow SSOW.

Rule Book and SOP Compliance:

  1. Ensure all operations are conducted in accordance with the rule book and SOPs.
  2. Keep up-to-date with any changes to the rule book and SOPs, and implement these changes as required.

Emergency Procedures:

  1. Implement emergency procedures in the event of incidents or system failures.
  2. Coordinate with emergency services, Airport Operations, and internal teams to manage and resolve emergencies effectively.
  3. Conduct regular drills and training sessions to ensure preparedness for emergency situations.

  1. High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical or vocational training is a plus.
  2. Previous experience in a control room or similar operational environment is preferred.
  3. Experience with automated transit systems or rail operations is an advantage.
  4. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  5. Proficiency in radio communication and other control room technologies.
  6. Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  7. Ability to work under pressure and handle emergencies calmly and efficiently.
  8. Relevant safety and operational certifications are desirable.
