Job description

  • Position: Oiler-Offshore
  • Work Location: Abu Dhabi Island
  • Rotation: 60/30

JOB PURPOSE:

  • The job purpose of an Oiler is to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of machinery on board
  • a vessel or within an industrial setting. This role is crucial for maintaining the functionality and
  • safety of mechanical systems by applying lubricants, performing routine maintenance, and assisting
  • with repairs. The Oiler helps prevent mechanical failures and extends the lifespan of equipment,
  • contributing to the overall operational efficiency and safety of the workplace.

3. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • 1. Lubrication: Apply lubricants to various parts of machinery to ensure smooth operation.
  • 2. Maintenance: Assist engineers with the maintenance and repair of engine room machinery and
  • equipment.
  • 3. Inspection: Perform routine checks and maintenance of the engines supporting systems, such as
  • oil filters and lubricating pumps.
  • 4. Record Keeping: Maintain detailed logs of machinery performance and report any abnormalities
  • to the engineering officer.
  • 5. Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with environmental policies and regulations concerning
  • waste oil and lubricants.
  • 6. Operational Support: Support the operation of pumps, engines, and other machinery, including
  • starting and stopping equipment.
  • 7. Cleaning: Clean and maintain tools and workspaces in the engine room to ensure a safe and
  • efficient environment.
  • 8. Emergency Response: Participate in safety drills and contribute to the ships overall safety
  • procedures.

4. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • · Experience: Previous experience in a similar role within the maritime industry is preferred.
  • · Education: A high school diploma or equivalent; completion of a training program in marine
  • engine maintenance is advantageous.
  • · Certifications: A valid Merchant Mariners Credential (MMC) with an Oiler endorsement or
  • equivalent certification.
  • · Technical Skills: Knowledge of maritime safety protocols and experience with hazardous
  • material handling.
  • · Physical Fitness: Good physical condition due to the demanding nature of the job, which
  • may include heavy lifting and working in confined spaces.
