  • Perform FEED, detailed design engineering, and analyses on complex engineering tasks.
  • Communicate effectively in engineering activities and provide onboard support offshore as required.
  • Document significant communications and prepare accurate design calculations and reports.

Job description

The Naval Architect applies their conceptual knowledge of Naval Architecture and, with moderate guidance from colleagues and leadership, is responsible for solving straightforward Naval Architecture problems.

They analyze solutions using standard procedures, building knowledge of the company, processes, and customers.

The Naval Architect understands critical business drivers and applies this knowledge to solve straightforward problems through technical experience, judgment, and precedents.

Responsibilities: Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Perform FEED, studies, detailed design engineering, analysis, and calculations on complex engineering tasks.
  • Apply knowledge and skills to complete assignments.
  • Prepare clear and accurate detailed design calculations, analyses, reports, and procedures.
  • Prioritize and organize work to meet deadlines.
  • Focus on completing work within budgets.
  • Communicate effectively in engineering activities.
  • Provide onboard engineering support offshore as required.
  • Familiarize with project scope, specifications, schedule, and inter-discipline requirements; identify concerns early.
  • Recognize scope changes and notify the Lead Naval Architect.
  • Interface with all disciplines to develop clash-free designs.
  • Collaborate with other departments for input on designs and drawings.
  • Document significant communications and forward to the Discipline Lead Engineer.
  • Contribute bid inputs as directed.
  • Prepare sketches for detailed designs to guide designers.
  • Assist procurement with technical requisitions, evaluations, and vendor coordination.
  • Update weight reports with vendor information.
  • Check drawings and engineering performed by others.
  • Perform design verification and assist with inter-discipline checks.
  • Keep the Lead Engineer informed of activities, progress, and concerns.
  • Capture lessons learned and enter into MDR's system.
  • Be aware of costs related to own work and discipline.
  • Perform Naval Architecture designs, analyses, and calculations related to marine operations, including loadout, transportation, and installation.

Reports to: Manager (Construction Support Engineer)

Liaises with: All design/drafting disciplines, engineering disciplines, fabrication group, marine group, and document control.

Supervises: Trainee Engineers

Qualifications

  • 3-8 years of oil and gas experience with a major contractor or consultant, mainly in detail design.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Naval Architecture; Master's preferred.
  • Preferably registered as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or member of a professional engineering society.
  • Familiar with standards, codes, and guidelines applicable to the role.
  • Knowledge of basic design techniques and analysis methods.
