As a Welding, Painting, and Material Inspector for a third-party inspection company, you will be responsible for ensuring the quality and compliance of materials, welding works, and protective coatings used in fabrication and construction projects. Your inspections will ensure that all materials and processes meet applicable standards, codes, project specifications, and client requirements across industries such as oil & gas, power, construction, and manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities:1. Material Inspection:- Review and verify Mill Test Certificates (MTCs) for compliance with project and code requirements.
- Check the identification, condition, and traceability of incoming materials (plates, pipes, fittings, welding consumables, etc.).
- Confirm materials meet specified grades, dimensions, and mechanical/chemical properties.
- Witness and document destructive and non-destructive material testing (e.g., tensile, impact, hardness tests).
- Inspect storage, handling, and preservation of materials to prevent damage or degradation.
- Report material non-conformities and follow up on corrective actions.
2. Welding Inspection:- Verify welding procedures, welder qualifications, and ensure alignment with project requirements and applicable codes (AWS, ASME, ISO, etc.).
- Conduct visual inspections of weld joints to detect surface defects (e.g., cracks, porosity, undercuts).
- Witness and review Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) such as RT, UT, MT, PT.
- Check fit-up, alignment, root gap, and dimensional compliance prior to welding.
- Monitor pre-heating, interpass temperature, and post-weld heat treatment as applicable.
- Review welding logs, NDT reports, and welding quality documentation.
3. Painting/Coating Inspection:- Confirm surface preparation meets specified standards (e.g., SSPC, NACE, ISO 8501).
- Verify environmental conditions (e.g., temperature, humidity, dew point) before and during coating application.
- Check paint materials for correct batch numbers, shelf life, and mixing ratios.
- Inspect coating application processes (DFT measurement, adhesion, curing) to ensure compliance.
- Detect coating defects such as holidays, pinholes, runs, sags, and ensure corrective action.
- Review painting/coating inspection reports, material data sheets, and QA/QC records.
4. Documentation & Reporting:- Prepare detailed inspection reports, including Material Receiving Inspection Reports (MRIR), Welding Inspection Reports (WIR), and Painting Inspection Reports (PIR).
- Issue and track Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and follow up on close-out activities.
- Maintain inspection records in accordance with project Quality Management System (QMS) requirements.
- Communicate inspection results and concerns clearly to clients, suppliers, contractors, and internal teams.
5. Compliance & Safety:- Ensure inspection activities comply with applicable standards, project specifications, and regulatory requirements.
- Promote best practices in Quality Assurance and Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE).
- Demonstrate integrity, impartiality, and adherence to ethical inspection procedures.
Qualifications & Requirements:- Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, or related discipline.
- Certified Welding Inspector (e.g., AWS-CWI, CSWIP 3.1/3.2) preferred.
- Certified Coating Inspector (e.g., NACE CIP Level 2/3, BGAS) preferred.
- Experience in Material Inspection processes and understanding of material standards (ASTM, ASME, API, EN, etc.).
- Minimum [3-5] years of relevant inspection experience in fabrication, construction, or manufacturing industries.
- Strong knowledge of welding processes, NDT techniques, coating systems, and material specifications.
- Proficiency in reviewing MTCs, QA/QC documentation, and technical drawings.
- Good communication, reporting, and problem-solving skills.
Additional Information:- Willing to travel to supplier works, fabrication yards, and project sites (onshore/offshore).
- Ability to work independently while ensuring accuracy, impartiality, and adherence to client requirements.
- Strong sense of responsibility, attention to detail, and commitment to delivering high-quality inspection services.
