Job summary

A leading company in the UAE seeks an Electrical Maintenance Technician responsible for maintaining electrical systems within their steel plant. The ideal candidate will ensure efficient plant operations through preventive maintenance and management of training programs for national trainees. Candidates should have significant experience and education in electrical engineering to meet the company's operational needs.

Qualifications

  • 5 years experience for Diploma holders; 8 years for Trade Certificate holders in Electrical maintenance.
  • Experience in steel plants, ideally in Electrical Substations.
  • Experience with health & safety compliance systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform corrective and preventative maintenance in the Main Substation.
  • Supervise and train new team members for required service delivery.
  • Analyze maintenance activities and develop action plans to address issues.

Skills

Maintenance of EHV, HV and LV equipment
Repairs and maintenance of substation equipment
Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
Basic office computer software

Education

Diploma / Trade Certificate (ITI) in Electrical Engineering
Training in Electric and Automation Systems

Job description

Responsible for carrying out Electrical Maintenance function in Main Substation during day shift to ensure that electrical corrective and preventative maintenance activities are performed to the correct standard and in a safe timely manner so that plant utilization is maximized at minimum cost. Works and integrates with other technical & production disciplines as a ‘Team worker’.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Key Accountabilities)
  • Work Planning: Works to Safety Rules and regulations, electrical maintenance work inspection reports & work orders .Follows job risk assessment and job work procedures. With Superior Uses condition monitoring techniques as a basis for prevention of failure and diagnoses complex equipment failures.
  • Analysis and Reporting: Analysis of previous day & shift activities with Supervisor so that action plans specific to skills can be developed to address line stoppage and fault analysis issues and hence improve maintenance service to internal customers.
  • Team supervision: Guide, monitor and assists train new team members so that the employees have the appropriate skills and behaviors required to deliver required levels of service to internal customers.
  • Problem Solving: Personally provide technical input to the resolution of major maintenance problems so that line down time is minimized and direct reports are accurate for technical understanding.
  • Spare parts management: Assist Supervisor in ensuring proper spare parts management.
  • Production Liaison: Meet with production personnel on a daily basis to discuss and finalize machine shut down schedules and obtain feedback on historical standards of service provision.
  • Job Inputting: Ensure that job details are correctly completed and entered onto maintenance systems to ensure that accurate performance trends can be identified and electrical maintenance jobs are handled in a timely manner.
  • Performance Review: Review outstanding jobs and trend analyses on a weekly basis to address underlying reasons for service non-compliance and put in place appropriate action plans to effect correction.
  • Budgeting: Assist Supervisor in preparing data and reports to input into the annual budgeting process.
  • National Development Program: Assist in developing U.A.E. national trainees / employees to prepare them ready for acquiring targeted positions in line with IDP developed as per company policies.
  • Health, Safety & Environment: Directs, maintain and follow ESI Integrated Management System procedures and guide lines .
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plant cleanliness: Implements programs and procedures required to ensure plant cleanliness.
  • Plant expansions: Assists with planning and implementing plant improvements and expansions.
Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities (attributes) required

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.

  • Fair knowledge of maintenance of EHV, HV and LV equipment’s.
  • Experience with repairs and maintenance of substation equipment’s.
  • Familiar with basic office computer software, e.g., word processing, email etc.
  • Ability to work effectively with Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), preferably SAP, and instruct others on its operation.
Minimum Education Qualifications (Must Haves) Any preferred professional training (Nice to have)
  • Diploma / Trade Certificate (ITI) in Electrical Engineering.
  • Trained on Elect. & Auto. Systems pertaining to Electrical Substation.
Professional Experience (Must haves) Previous Experience/exposure Recommendations (Nice to have)
  • 5 years (for Diploma holder) or 8 years (for Trade Certificate holder) in Electrical maintenance in steel plant preferably in an Electrical Substation of a Steel Plant.
  • Working experience in any of the Middle-east countries (familiar with rules and regulations, climatic conditions…)
  • Health & Safety compliance systems experience.

  • Establish and maintain development programs for the UAE national trainees/employees as per company policies.
