We're looking for a Medical UX Writer to own the words our patients read. You'll be the dedicated writer for patient-facing copy across our product: from the microcopy in the patient app to the emails, landing pages and flyers that explain what we do and why it matters.
This role sits at an unusual intersection: you need enough clinical literacy to translate medical concepts accurately for a lay audience, and enough product knowledge to describe our catalogue and offerings precisely. Getting either wrong has real consequences; a confusing consultation screen costs us a patient, and an inaccurate clinical claim costs us more than that.
Much of what we offer is unfamiliar to the average person. We measure resting metabolic rate with indirect calorimetry (ECal), cardiovascular risk with skin autofluorescence (the AGE Reader), liver stiffness and fat with FibroScan, and more as we expand the catalogue. Nobody arrives asking for a skin autofluorescence reading. Your job is to make a patient understand what a modality actually tells them about their body, why it's worth doing, and then, once the result is in, what it means for them personally and what they should do about it. That second half matters as much as the first: a number a patient doesn't care about changes nothing.
As we expand, you'll also own how our clinical content travels across markets. A patient in Abu Dhabi, London and New York should get the same clinical substance, but not the same words. Expectations around health language, formality, directness, regulatory constraints and cultural framing differ meaningfully between them. You'll write and adapt for all three, in Arabic and English, rather than translating one master version and hoping it lands.
Beyond the writing itself, you'll be the clinical voice in how we communicate. Marketing owns our brand voice; you'll work with them to shape what that voice sounds like when it's carrying medical information: the principles, terminology and standards that teams apply when they write their own copy or prompt AI models to draft it.
Work is project-based and billed hourly. A typical week might include reviewing wireframes for a new product with the product team, rewriting a marketing email for the UK market, and turning a newly published research paper into something our patients can actually understand.
Responsibilities
Product copy
- Review and refine existing UX copy for the patient app (screens, flows, notifications) for clinical accuracy and clarity, editing drafts produced by the product team
- Partner with product and design from wireframe stage onward, so copy shapes the flow rather than filling it in afterwards
- Own the language of the consultation flow, where clarity directly affects clinical data quality and patient trust
- Write launch copy for new clinical products, working with clinical and product teams to get the substance right
Marketing and commercial copy
- Write and review landing pages for clinical products and services
- Review and rewrite patient emails containing clinical information
- Write and review sales scripts for the contact centre, ensuring what's said on a call is accurate and compliant
- Write and review flyers and other patient-facing collateral
Explaining our modalities
- Learn our diagnostic modalities properly: indirect calorimetry (ECal), skin autofluorescence and the AGE Reader cardiovascular risk score, FibroScan liver stiffness and steatosis, and whatever we add next, including what each one measures, what it doesn't, and where its limits are
- Write the copy that makes an unfamiliar test worth doing: what it tells a patient about their own body, why that's useful, what happens during it, and what they get at the end
- Write the results copy — turn a score, a stiffness value or a metabolic rate into something a patient understands, cares about, and can act on
- Give results meaning without overclaiming: convey risk and significance honestly, avoid alarm, and always land on a next step
- Keep explanations consistent wherever a modality appears: app, consultation, landing page, flyer, contact centre script, so a patient hears the same story throughout
Clinical translation
- Turn research findings, published papers and clinical updates into patient-facing communications
- Act as the go-to reviewer when any team needs to communicate medical information to a general audience
- Flag and correct claims that overstate, mislead or stray outside what the evidence supports
Regional and bilingual ownership
- Own how clinical content is communicated across our markets (UAE, UK and US) as we expand into new ones
- Write and adapt patient-facing copy in both Arabic and English, producing culturally and clinically appropriate versions rather than direct translations
- Build a working knowledge of each market's patients: health literacy norms, attitudes to clinical authority, expectations around directness, and what builds or erodes trust locally
- Adapt terminology, tone, units, formats and clinical framing per market, and document where the differences are deliberate
- Ensure Arabic copy works properly in the product: right-to-left layouts, string length, typography and truncation, flagging issues to design and engineering early
- Track the differing regulatory and advertising constraints across markets and keep copy compliant in each
- Set the standard and review process for any future language or market we add
Standards and enablement
- Marketing owns our brand voice. This role brings the clinical layer to it; working with marketing to shape how that voice behaves when the subject is someone's health.
- Partner with marketing to extend our existing voice and tone guidelines into clinical territory: reading level, terminology, and how we handle uncertainty, risk, evidence and clinical claims
- Build and maintain the clinical terminology glossary and product-description standards that sit alongside marketing's brand guidelines
- Contribute the clinical section of the guidance internal teams use when prompting AI models to draft patient-facing copy, so AI-assisted output is accurate as well as on-brand — including per-market and Arabic-language guidance
- Act as the clinical reviewer for copy written by non-writers across the business, and help teams get it right the first time
Compliance and accuracy
- Ensure patient-facing claims are substantiated, appropriately caveated and consistent with clinical guidance
- Work within applicable health advertising and marketing regulations for the markets we operate in
- Coordinate with clinical and legal reviewers on anything that requires sign-off, and keep a clear record of what was approved
Requirements
- Genuine clinical literacy: able to read a clinical paper, product monograph or protocol and extract what matters for a patient, without distorting it
- Experience writing UX copy for digital products, working from wireframes and design files alongside product and design teams
- Strong plain-language skills. Able to write at an accessible reading level without being patronising
- Native or near-native written fluency in both Arabic and English, with the ability to write original patient-facing clinical copy in each — not translate between them
- Demonstrable understanding of at least two of our three markets (UAE, UK, US), and the appetite to build the same depth in the third
- Judgement about what changes between markets and what must not: able to adapt tone, framing and terminology while keeping clinical substance identical
- Understanding of the regulatory constraints on health marketing and clinical claims across markets, and the instinct to elevate when something needs review
- Comfortable learning a product catalogue in depth and describing it accurately and consistently
- Able to make an unfamiliar diagnostic test feel worth doing, and a result feel worth acting on. Persuasive without drifting into hype or fear
- Comfortable working with biomarkers, scores and measurement outputs, and explaining what a number means to the person it belongs to
- Able to work independently across multiple parallel requests from different teams, scope your own hours and deliver to agreed timelines
- A clinical, pharmacy, nursing, life sciences or medical communications background
- Experience in metabolic health, endocrinology, weight management or chronic condition management
- Familiarity with diagnostic or preventive health testing (body composition, metabolic testing, imaging or elastography, biomarker panels) and how results are communicated to consumers
- Experience building a content style guide, voice-and-tone framework or terminology standard from scratch
- Familiarity with prompting LLMs and writing prompt guidance or content standards for AI-assisted drafting
- Working knowledge of Figma
- Experience with health literacy frameworks and accessibility standards for content
- Experience localising a digital product across markets, including RTL implementation
- Familiarity with health advertising rules in the UAE (DoH/DHA/MoHAP), UK (ASA/CAP, MHRA) and US (FTC/FDA)
- Experience with Gulf Arabic versus Modern Standard Arabic register decisions for consumer health content
How you work
- You ask what the patient is trying to do before you write a word
- You'd rather push back on a claim than let it ship
- You're comfortable being the person who says "that's not what the study found"
- You leave behind guidance and standards, not just deliverables
- Hourly rate, invoiced against agreed project scopes
- Requests come in from product, marketing, clinical and research teams, triaged and prioritised with the product team
- Typical projects range from a single email review to a full product launch copy set
