Medical Coder On‑site | Abu Dhabi AppliedAI is a pioneering AI technology company headquartered in Abu Dhabi, UAE. We are committed to innovation and excellence in artificial intelligence solutions across regulated industries such as healthcare, insurance, government, and financial services. AppliedAI is at the forefront of redefining the future of work through cutting‑edge AI solutions. We empower organizations by automating complex, document‑heavy processes, ensuring unparalleled efficiency and accuracy. Our commitment to synergizing human intelligence with artificial intelligence helps our clients excel in highly regulated industries, including healthcare, finance, and insurance. Our flagship platform, Opus, automates and supervises mission‑critical, document‑heavy processes with embedded governance, auditability, and human oversight. We help enterprises achieve measurable productivity gains while increasing operational reliability and trust. About the Role We are looking for an experienced Medical Coder to join our Solutions Delivery team as a Medical Coding Subject Matter Expert (SME). This is a hands‑on, client‑facing role at the intersection of medical coding, healthcare operations, and AI solution delivery, working closely with AI Solutions Consultants, Project Managers, Engineers, and client healthcare teams to understand, document, and translate real‑world coding processes into reliable automated workflows on Opus. Medical coding is the core area of expertise, with strong hands‑on experience across both Outpatient (OP) and Inpatient (IP) coding, while knowledge or exposure to broader Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) is an added advantage, particularly an understanding of how coding connects to downstream processes such as billing, claims, denials, and appeals. The ideal candidate can confidently engage with client teams, understand complex processes and exceptions, identify gaps, and translate their coding expertise into clear requirements that technical teams can build against.
Key Responsibilities
- Sit with client coding and clinical teams to map current‑state OP and IP medical coding workflows, documenting them (e.g. via BPMN or similar) so the delivery squad can translate them into automated Opus workflows.
- Act as the medical coding subject‑matter expert (SME) on client‑facing calls and workshops, fielding and resolving coding‑related questions directly and confidently on behalf of the delivery team.
- Review and validate ICD‑10‑CM, CPT, HCPCS, and other applicable coding assignments — both from client documentation and from Opus' automated outputs — to confirm accuracy and UAE healthcare regulation / payer compliance.
- Partner with our internal teams to test and validate Opus's coding‑related features: reviewing test cases, flagging discrepancies between AI‑generated and correct coding, and answering internal queries on coding logic and edge cases.
- Coordinate with client stakeholders to clarify documentation gaps and ensure coding logic built into Opus reflects real‑world clinical and coding practice.
- Support UAT and go‑live phases for new client rollouts, verifying coding outputs meet quality and productivity targets before and after automation.
- Stay current on UAE coding guidelines, regulatory changes, and payer requirements, and feed relevant updates back into internal testing and client delivery processes.
- Contribute to coding audits and continuous quality improvement initiatives across both client engagements and internal Opus development.
- Apply knowledge of the broader Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) workflow to understand how coding connects with downstream processes such as billing, claims, denials, and appeals.
- Act as a bridge between client coding/RCM teams and technical delivery teams, ensuring business processes and requirements are clearly understood and implemented.
Key Requirements
- Must currently reside in the UAE, with 3-5 years of recent, hands‑on UAE‑based Medical Coding experience — non‑negotiable given the client‑facing, on‑the‑ground nature of this role.
- Hands‑on experience in both Outpatient (OP) and Inpatient (IP) coding is mandatory.
- Strong client‑facing communication skills, with confidence running structured conversations and handling coding queries directly with client teams and internal stakeholders.
- Comfortable supporting internal testing and QA cycles — reviewing test cases, spotting coding discrepancies, and answering technical coding queries from Product/Engineering teams.
- Solid working knowledge of ICD‑10‑CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems, with strong analytical, documentation, and attention‑to‑detail skills.
- Strong understanding of UAE healthcare coding practices, regulations, and payer requirements.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with confidence working directly with clients and clinical stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within an agile delivery squad.
Added Advantage
- Knowledge or exposure to the broader Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) workflow, including how medical coding interacts with billing, claims, denials, appeals, and other downstream processes.
- Experience working with healthcare RCM teams or exposure to end‑to‑end healthcare revenue cycle operations.
- Experience with coding audits, quality assurance, or coding validation.
- Experience working with EHR/EMR, coding, billing, or claims management systems.
- Familiarity with BPMN, process mapping, workflow documentation, or business process analysis.
- Experience with healthcare technology implementations, workflow automation, or digital transformation.
- Relevant medical coding certifications.
- Exposure to AI‑assisted coding or healthcare automation solutions.
- Immediate joiners preferred.
