Job summary

Abbott in United Arab Emirates seeks a Medical Advisor in Oncology to work from our UAE office within Established Pharmaceuticals. You will develop scientific partnerships with key opinion leaders, provide medical information, and support clinical studies per local regulations.

This role requires field activity, stakeholder engagement, and strong communication skills. You will interact with KOLs, map profiles across UAE and Gulf territories, and ensure compliant conduct of all activities while

Qualifications

  • Degree in health sciences (holding M.D, PhD, PharmD, Post graduate degree in Life sciences or related is an advantage).
  • Experience in pharmaceutical industry, specifically in oncology not less than 2 years (Oncology experience is mandatory).
  • Preferably previous experience in MSL role.
  • Through knowledge and experience of the dynamics in healthcare system and pharmaceutical industry in the Gulf region.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills.
  • Act as team player.
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Fluent in English both written and spoken. Arabic is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Compliance: Ensure that all activities and interactions are conducted with due regard to all applicable local, global, and national laws, regulations, guidelines, codes of conduct, Company policies and accepted standards of best practice.
  • Report any adverse event or safety concern to the pharmacovigilance department within 24 hours.
  • Stakeholder Interactions - Development of scientific partnership with Key Opinion leaders and HCP through evidence based communication and education, medical information on oncology product and therapeutic area.
  • Regular interaction with KOLs 4-5 visits per day.
  • KOL mapping and action plans for each KOL throughout the year.
  • KOLs identification and development of local lists/maps (10-15/TA) across UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain.
  • Provide scientific and technical support for publications and maintain relationships with key opinion leaders and academic centers.
  • Deliver credible presentations and education related to oncology TA and clinical evidence of products to HCPs.
  • Participate in selecting appropriately qualified physicians for collaborations.
  • Attend scientific meetings and develop summaries of key messages.
  • Provide key opinion leaders and internal medical with scientific support for publications.
  • Identify and develop local speakers and upgrade to regional/global level.
  • Support in inclusion of new products.
  • Inform commercial team to withdraw or refrain from using non-approved materials.
  • Clinical Research: identify investigators for clinical trials and assist in initiation and oversight.
  • Medical Information: respond to unsolicited medical inquiries.
  • Ensure sales team reports all medical inquiries and adverse events in iSTAR.
  • Brand Team Execution: deliver medical refreshers, participate in Brand Team meetings and share insights; spend 80% in field with double visits.

The Opportunity - Medical Advisor

This position works out of our UAE office in the Established Pharmaceutical division. This is an Oncology Field based Medical Advisor role About Established Pharmaceuticals—We are committed to bringing the benefits of our trusted medicines to more people in the world’s fastest-growing countries. What You'll Do
  1. Compliance: Ensure that all activities and interactions are conducted with due regard to all applicable local, global, and national laws, regulations, guidelines, codes of conduct, Company policies and accepted standards of best practice.
  2. Ensure to report any adverse event or safety concern to the pharmacovigilance department within 24 hours.
  3. Stakeholder Interactions - Development of scientific partnership with Key Opinion leaders and HCP through evidence based communication and education, medical information on oncology product and therapeutic area.
  4. Ensure regular interaction with KOLs 4-5 visits per day.
  5. KOL mapping (categorization and developing action plan for each KOL throughout the year) after aligning with direct manager.
  6. Setting at least 2 action plans per KOL per year.
  7. KOLs identification based on preset selection criteria
  8. Develop KOL list/map (at least 10-15/TA) across UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain territories.
  9. Provide scientific and technical support for, and help maintain professional and credible relationships with, key opinion leaders and academic centers to ensure access to current medical and scientific information on the oncology therapeutic area as per Abbott policy and country regulations.
  10. Deliver credible presentations and education related to the oncology TA and clinical evidence of products, to HCPs individually or in groups (meetings, clinical sessions, etc.), where requested.
  11. Participate in the selection process to identify appropriately qualified physicians the Company would wish to engage in collaborative efforts – such as potential research collaborations, or lecture/meeting support (Round Tables, Congresses, Symposia, etc.); and to ensure a high level of scientific or educational integrity in these collaborative efforts.
  12. Selection process should not be influenced with prescribing behavior of the HCP.
  13. Attend relevant Scientific Societies meetings and Conferences, and develop summaries of key messages for use within the Company – such as key areas of scientific/company interest, new trends in diagnosis, monitoring and treatments in the therapeutic area, etc.
  14. Provide key opinion leaders and internal medical with scientific and technical support for publications of scientific or medical interest.
  15. Identify and develop local speakers and upgrade to regional and global level.
  16. Support in the inclusion of new products.
  17. Promotional Materials: Make sure that approved scientific materials are being distributed and used as per the company policy and local laws.
  18. Inform commercial team to withdraw or refrain from using any promotional/scientific material that is either not approved or expired after aligning with direct manager.
  19. Clinical Research Performance: Identify investigators appropriate for clinical trials.
  20. Assist in the initiation, oversight and follow up of assigned clinical studies and medical projects initiated within the relevant therapeutic area (e.g. post marketing clinical activities such as registry/database projects, epidemiological surveys, post-authorization studies (phase IV), IIS projects, etc.): all activities to comply with applicable local laws, guidelines, codes of practice, SOPs, and Global Pharmaceutical Research and Development (GPRD) SOPs.
  21. Medical Information: Responding to unsolicited medical inquiries coming from the HCPs.
  22. Ensure that the sales team are reporting all medical inquiries, adverse events and quality complaints on the iSTAR system for medical information.
  23. Brand Team Execution – Deliver medical refresher to internal employees and medical representatives on the disease. Participating in medical Affairs activities e.g., conferences, congresses, etc. To generate insights and to share them with relevant stakeholders. Spend 80% of time in field either in individual KOL interactions or joining sales team in double visits to support them in scientific discussion. (4 days out of 5 in fields) Participating routinely in Brand Team meetings. Involve the Medical activity in strategic initiatives. Support medical team members in collecting insights during molecule assessment process.
Required Qualifications
