What Does a Mechanical Technician Do?
- Perform fault diagnosis, systematic strip-down, and repairs of mechanical equipment such as cranes, winches, pumps, compressors, and valves.
- Carry out maintenance and overhauls of syncrolift systems, Rexroth shiplifts, sheaves, and gearboxes.
- Replace wire ropes and ensure proper function of heavy lifting systems.
- Plan and request spare parts in advance to minimize procurement delays and equipment downtime.
- Support installation of new mechanical systems and infrastructure at port or shipyard facilities.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment in all job areas.
- Act as foreman on assigned projects when required and support daily departmental operations.
- Inspect materials and report defects prior to use to ensure safety and quality.
- Work closely with supervisors, foremen, and management to maintain efficient operations.
- Participate in technical training and departmental workshops as needed.
What Are the Key Responsibilities?
- Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance on shipyard mechanical systems.
- Identify and communicate potential issues before they lead to equipment failure.
- Perform mechanical installation and alignment on heavy-duty systems.
- Oversee and support daily repair tasks and minor projects within assigned scope.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance tasks and safety observations.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and internal policies during all operations.
What Skills Are Needed for a Mechanical Technician in Dubai?
Education & Experience:
- Technical diploma or equivalent certification in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Maintenance.
- At least 3 to 5 years of experience in shipyard or industrial mechanical maintenance roles.
- Practical knowledge of syncrolift systems, gearboxes, and mechanical lifting equipment.
Technical Skills:
- Strong troubleshooting and mechanical repair abilities.
- Understanding of port and marine mechanical systems.
- Familiarity with industrial maintenance tools, rigging, and safety protocols.
Soft Skills:
- Ability to work independently and in a team under pressure.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
- Good communication and reporting skills.
