Job Description

What Does a Mechanical Technician Do?

1. Perform fault diagnosis, systematic strip-down, and repairs of mechanical equipment such as cranes, winches, pumps, compressors, and valves.
2. Carry out maintenance and overhauls of syncrolift systems, Rexroth shiplifts, sheaves, and gearboxes.
3. Replace wire ropes and ensure proper function of heavy lifting systems.
4. Plan and request spare parts in advance to minimize procurement delays and equipment downtime.
5. Support installation of new mechanical systems and infrastructure at port or shipyard facilities.
6. Maintain a clean and safe work environment in all job areas.
7. Act as foreman on assigned projects when required and support daily departmental operations.
8. Inspect materials and report defects prior to use to ensure safety and quality.
9. Work closely with supervisors, foremen, and management to maintain efficient operations.
10. Participate in technical training and departmental workshops as needed.

What Are the Key Responsibilities?

1. Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance on shipyard mechanical systems.
2. Identify and communicate potential issues before they lead to equipment failure.
3. Perform mechanical installation and alignment on heavy-duty systems.
4. Oversee and support daily repair tasks and minor projects within assigned scope.
5. Maintain accurate records of maintenance tasks and safety observations.
6. Ensure compliance with safety standards and internal policies during all operations.

What Skills Are Needed for a Mechanical Technician in Dubai?

Education & Experience:

1. Technical diploma or equivalent certification in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Maintenance.
2. At least 3 to 5 years of experience in shipyard or industrial mechanical maintenance roles.
3. Practical knowledge of syncrolift systems, gearboxes, and mechanical lifting equipment.

Technical Skills:

1. Strong troubleshooting and mechanical repair abilities.
2. Understanding of port and marine mechanical systems.
3. Familiarity with industrial maintenance tools, rigging, and safety protocols.

Soft Skills:

1. Ability to work independently and in a team under pressure.
2. Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
