Description
The Mechanical Engineer will assist the Project Manager and the Resident Engineer in managing the operational functions of daily activities on the project. The Mechanical Engineer will participate in reviewing and approving all contractor submittals, with a focus on quality assurance during the engineering phase of construction.
Under the supervision of the project resident engineer or MEP lead, the engineer performs routine inspection and monitoring tasks to ensure proper construction supervision. They inspect various aspects of work on-site and continuously oversee construction activities to ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and specifications. They document nonconformances and participate in determining appropriate resolutions.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Assist the Resident Engineer or MEP Lead in performing contractual duties on site.
- Provide solutions for technical engineering problems within the assigned discipline(s) and coordinate their application to ensure progress.
- Advise the project manager on any technical aspects of the mechanical services that may impact construction progress and quality.
- Review the contractor's construction schedule during project execution.
- Review construction submittals from inception to closeout, including installation method statements, shop drawings, material proposals, and subcontractor proposals, ensuring compliance with design intent and technical requirements.
- Monitor material procurement and deliveries to support construction schedules.
- Conduct site inspections to verify adherence to approved drawings, specifications, safety, and schedule.
- Perform offsite inspections of equipment and materials as necessary.
- Review and witness testing and commissioning of mechanical systems, including pressure tests and leakage tests.
- Prepare defect lists and oversee remedial actions during snagging and final inspections.
- Attend progress and technical meetings related to mechanical services.
- Draft site and engineer instructions for building mechanical services.
- Advise on variation costs claimed by contractors.
- Review contractors' Operation and Maintenance manuals.
- Oversee junior engineers and inspectors to ensure compliance with quality standards and contractual obligations.
- Coordinate with utility authorities for connections as required.
- Ensure project quality control procedures are followed and seek continuous improvement.
- Collaborate to eliminate hazards and ensure safety and environmental standards.
- Interpret design drawings and specifications to ensure correct technical execution.
- Support with inspection requests and other responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications and Skills
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum of 10 years postgraduate experience, with at least 7 years on large projects.
- Regional experience is preferred.
- Authority registration is preferred.
- Ability to manage and coordinate a team of moderate size and complexity.
- UAE Driving License.
