Role Overview:
Orbit International Survey Services LLC (Orbit ISS) is seeking an experienced Mechanical & Commissioning Inspector with strong expertise in HVAC systems and rotating machinery. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in stage-wise inspections, machinery alignment, and mechanical testing, with solid knowledge of international standards (ASME, ISO, IEC), classification requirements, and quality protocols. Experience in ship repair or newbuilding projects is a plus.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure all mechanical and HVAC works comply with project specifications, codes, and company quality standards.
- Conduct stage-wise and final inspections of mechanical equipment in workshops and onboard vessels.
- Inspect installation and alignment of rotating machinery including pumps, engines, thrusters, propellers, compressors, and skid-mounted systems.
- Witness and validate chock fastening, torque tightening, load testing of cranes, pad eyes, trolley beams, and lifting equipment.
- Perform material inspections and verification for mechanical equipment and accessories.
- Carry out inspections of HVAC systems and related mechanical installations.
- Utilize precision instruments (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, gauges) for inspections and alignment checks.
- Witness mechanical testing such as hardness, crush, pressure, vibration, and surface roughness.
- Coordinate with classification societies, third-party agencies, and ship superintendents to ensure compliance and resolve inspection findings.
- Raise Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), recommend corrective/preventive actions, and verify rework completion.
- Maintain accurate, detailed, and up-to-date inspection reports and documentation.
- Promote and enforce safety, quality, and environmental standards, exercising Stop Work Authority when required.
- Support QC Engineers and supervisors with additional inspection-related tasks.
- Foster a collaborative and safe work environment with commitment to deadlines and quality.
Requirements
- Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or relevant field.
- Minimum 3+ years of experience in mechanical inspection/commissioning (oil & gas, marine, or shipyard projects).
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, rotating machinery, inspection/testing techniques, and mechanical drawings.
- Familiarity with international standards (ASME, ISO, IEC) and classification society requirements.
- Experience with shipyard practices, marine quality norms, and industrial safety procedures.
- Excellent written and spoken English; additional languages are a plus.
- Skilled in preparing clear and concise technical reports and inspection documentation.
- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to coordinate with clients, contractors, and third parties.
- Client-oriented, quality-focused, and able to lead inspections under pressure.
- Willingness to work in challenging environments while adhering to strict safety protocols.
