Role Context

The Mathematics Teacher will help students build secure numerical, algebraic and problem-solving foundations while developing the confidence to apply mathematical thinking independently. The role requires clear subject explanation, purposeful assessment and teaching strategies that enable students with different abilities to make sustained progress. Working within a large British curriculum school, the successful teacher will contribute to an ambitious academic culture where high expectations are balanced with student wellbeing and inclusive classroom practice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver Mathematics lessons aligned with the National Curriculum for England.
  • Teach mathematical concepts with clarity, accuracy and appropriate progression across the assigned year groups.
  • Develop students ' skills in number, algebra, geometry, statistics, probability and mathematical reasoning.
  • Use practical examples and problem-solving activities to help students connect mathematical theory with real applications.
  • Build students ' confidence in approaching unfamiliar problems and explaining mathematical methods.
  • Differentiate instruction to support learners with varying levels of prior attainment and mathematical fluency.
  • Provide additional challenge for high-performing students through advanced problem-solving and extension work.
  • Identify misconceptions early and use targeted teaching strategies to address gaps in understanding.
  • Use formative and summative assessment to measure progress and inform future lesson planning.
  • Track individual and cohort achievement and coordinate appropriate intervention where students are underperforming.
  • Prepare students effectively for internal assessments and external examinations where applicable.
  • Provide constructive feedback that helps learners improve accuracy, reasoning and mathematical communication.
  • Maintain high expectations for participation, behaviour, organisation and independent learning.
  • Create an inclusive classroom environment where students feel confident asking questions and attempting challenging work.
  • Use digital resources and educational technology where they improve mathematical understanding and engagement.
  • Collaborate with Mathematics colleagues on curriculum planning, resource development, moderation and assessment.
  • Contribute to departmental improvement initiatives and share effective teaching strategies.
  • Build positive professional relationships with students and support their academic and personal development.
  • Communicate effectively with parents regarding progress, attainment and areas requiring further support.
  • Participate in school events, enrichment activities and wider community initiatives.

Ideal Profile

Candidates should hold a B.Ed or an appropriate bachelor 's degree together with PGCE, PGDE or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification specialising in Mathematics. Experience teaching the National Curriculum for England is preferred, although Early Career Teachers are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate should demonstrate strong Mathematics subject knowledge and the ability to explain complex concepts in an accessible way. Applicants should be able to design engaging lessons that promote mathematical reasoning, problem-solving and independent thinking. A commitment to inclusive education and differentiation is essential. Candidates should maintain high expectations for both student achievement and wellbeing.
