Materials Testing Technician

The Materials Testing Technician is responsible for conducting laboratory and field tests on construction materials such as soil, concrete, asphalt, and aggregates to ensure they meet project specifications and regulatory standards. Working under the supervision of engineers and lab managers, this role involves collecting samples, performing standardized tests, documenting results, and maintaining testing equipment. The technician operates in compliance with UAE construction codes, health and safety regulations, and quality assurance protocols.

Responsibilities:

1. Performing material tests in accordance with ASTM, AASHTO, BS, and UAE-based specifications for soil, concrete, asphalt, and aggregates.
2. Collecting samples from construction sites, batching plants, or suppliers and ensuring proper handling and labeling.
3. Operating and calibrating laboratory equipment such as compression machines, ovens, sieves, and balances.
4. Recording test results accurately and preparing detailed reports for review by engineers and project managers.
5. Identifying and reporting non-compliant materials or test outcomes that deviate from standards.
6. Assisting in maintaining laboratory cleanliness, equipment maintenance, and adherence to calibration schedules.
7. Following safety protocols and wearing proper PPE during lab and site activities.
8. Ensuring all test procedures and documentation align with UAE standards, including Dubai Municipality, Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC), and ISO requirements.

Requirements:

1. Diploma or certification in Civil Engineering Technology, Materials Testing, or a related technical field.
2. 2-4 years of experience in a materials testing laboratory or construction quality control environment, preferably within the UAE.
3. Familiarity with ASTM, BS, and AASHTO standards and UAE construction regulations.
4. Ability to use laboratory testing equipment and interpret test data accurately.
5. Strong documentation and reporting skills using MS Excel and laboratory software.
6. Valid UAE driving license is preferred for field sampling responsibilities.
7. Good communication and teamwork skills in a multicultural work environment.
8. Fluency in English is required; knowledge of Arabic or other regional languages is an advantage.
