Job description

Our Tier 1 Main Contracting Client has a new requirement for a well-experienced Materials Engineer to join their Interiors team in Dubai to work on high-profile new build projects. Successful candidates will have a proven background as a Materials Engineer working on high-profile projects in the UAE, with preference given to those with prior experience working for recognized Main Contracting Companies. This role is available for immediate joining and is an initial 3-6 Month Contract position employed as an outsource candidate through J10 Consulting. There is an option at 6 months to transfer to staff if it suits all parties.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Review the material submittals and obtain the required approvals according to the applicable standards and project specifications.
  2. Serve as the focal point for the scheduling and control of construction materials and equipment at the job site.
  3. Conduct inspections to determine if work has been done in accordance with contract specifications.
  4. Coordinate work of sub-contractors for material testing.
  5. Maintain office files related to the project, material inspections, and write daily diaries.
  6. Prepare daily reports and other documentation, as required by the contract.
  7. Verify that only approved materials are incorporated in the work.
  8. Recognize potential conflicts, issues, and problems on construction materials, and report to supervisor with proposed solutions.
  9. Collect, review, and file Certificate of Compliance, MSDS, inspection tags, and other information relevant to the materials used.
  10. May provide technical guidance to lower-level staff.
  11. Participate in the development of job safety practices and in the preparation of safety reports.
  12. Participate in the development of quality control reports and procedures.
  13. Capability to perform math calculations in order to prepare engineering calculations, graphs, and charts.
  14. Observe, check, and record work execution in accordance with approved methods.
  15. Check material delivered to ensure it is as approved and properly stored.

Materials Engineer Experience:

  1. Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Civil, Structural, or related field.
  2. Minimum of 6-8 years experience in recognized Main Contractor companies on new build and interior fit-out projects.
  3. Experience in the construction of malls, high-rise, and hotel projects will be highly advantageous.
  4. Must be able to read and interpret plans and specifications and be thoroughly familiar with construction-related processes related to the area of assignment.
  5. Knowledge of English grammar and composition, the ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing; to follow oral and written instructions, prepare written messages, and simple charts and graphs.
