Job description

The role of Marketing and Communications Assistant is a key part of the Business Development and Engagement areas remit. This area is responsible for sales and marketing, business development, external engagement, communications, brand and reputation, and admissions for the Dubai campus. The team play a critical role in the future success of the University, delivering against student recruitment and other income targets, building key stakeholder relationships in the region and taking responsibility for the overall brand and reputation of the University’s only campus outside of the UK. It is a dynamic team that works closely with colleagues from across campus and in partnership with teams based in the UK. Team colleagues also have close connections to external partners in the UAE and other key recruitment markets (including China and India).

This role supports communications and marketing for the Dubai Campus. You will proactively devise and deliver content and provide administrative support to a wide range of marketing activities and communications to a variety of audiences.You will also provide advice and support to colleagues through a range of methods.

Job role

  • Support the Marketing and Communications Officer with the delivery of marketing activity for the Dubai campus to meet student recruitment targets
  • Lead on the delivery of the social media strategy with support from the Marketing and Communications Officer
  • Provide general day-to-day administrative support in relation to marketing activity
  • Maintain accurate budgets and records of marketing spend, including raising purchase order requisitions and keeping the budget tracker up to date
  • Manage relationships with our student ambassadors as part of our Ambassador programme
  • Produce high quality social media content, including developing content plans for all University channels
  • Manage relationships with Marketing content creators to produce high quality social media content
  • Video editing and design skills are a must for this role
  • To undertake a range of other duties as directed by the Marketing and Communications Manager

Main Duties

  • Support the Marketing and Communications Officer with the delivery of marketing activity for the Dubai campus to meet student recruitment targets. This will include : Conducting competitor analysis and league table data analysis and making recommendations as appropriate.Delivering market research activity . arranging focus groups with students and using results to make recommendations.
  • Lead on the day-to-day delivery of the social media strategy with support from the Marketing and Communications Officer.
  • Provide general day-to-day administrative support in relation to marketing activity.
  • Maintain accurate budgets and records of marketing spend, including raising purchase order requisitions and keeping the budget tracker up to date, raising concerns where finances are not in line with the budget.
  • Manage relationships with our student ambassadors as part of our Ambassador programme.
  • Produce high quality social media content, including developing content plans for all University channels.
  • Manage relationships with Marketing content creators to produce high quality social media content.
  • Working with internal colleagues to deliver social media activity.
  • Supports equality and values diversity, moderating own behaviour to avoid unfair discriminatory impact or bias on others.
  • To undertake a range of other duties as directed by the Marketing and Communications Manager.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience

  • Educated to A Level standard, or equivalent level 3 qualification or relevant work experience evidence the skills and ability to undertake the role.
  • Experience of working in a marketing environment.
  • Experience of working with social media in a professional context including producing content.
  • Video editing skills are a must for this role.
  • A proven, high standard of communication and confidence of dealing with projects at all levels, including the ability to write for different audiences, and to required deadlines.
  • Good copywriting skills particularly for social channels.
  • Highly proficient IT skills, including the MS Office and website editing software. You should be confident and able to quickly learn new IT skills and software packages as required.
  • Experience of understanding and interpreting data including Google Analytics, and proficiency using Excel.
  • Experience of providing support for complex internal and external events.
  • Ability to work with initiative, under pressure and manage multiple workloads simultaneously.
  • Proven ability to plan ahead and anticipate requirements, proactively planning own (and sometimes others’ workloads) to manage time effectively, progress tasks concurrently and work to deadlines.
  • Experience of liaising with a wide range of stakeholders, including senior managers.
  • Well-developed administrative and organisational skills with a proven ability to pay attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a ‘can-do’ attitude. You must inspire confidence and command authority with a range of colleagues and provide excellent customer service at all times.
  • Creative and innovative approach to problem-solving.
  • Computer literate, confident and competent in the use of database systems and electronic communication.
  • Flexibility to work out of hours when required.
  • Experience of administering budgets, financial transactions and familiarity with overseas payments.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write for different audiences, and to required deadlines.
  • A high degree of professionalism, tact, and diplomacy, and the ability to exercise discretion regarding the handling and management of sensitive information / issues.
  • A high degree of initiative, personal judgement, resourcefulness, flexibility, and a self-motivating approach.
  • Ability to work effectively in a large, complex organisation, and to develop a good understanding of how and higher education institutions work.

This role will require the exercise of personal initiative within and beyond the department and with external contacts.

Planning and Organising

The role is required to work independently on daily, weekly and monthly tasks but also on projects with medium-longer-term horizons without daily supervision.

You will work with direction from your managers but you will have a significant degree of autonomy.You will deal with more complex queries and be expected to resolve any problems in your area of responsibility.

Internal and External relationships

You will liaise with internal colleagues and stakeholders University-wide and also with external stakeholders.
