Job Summary
The Maritime Certifications and Flags Analyst is responsible for managing and supporting all administrative, audit, and inspection activities related to ISM, ISPS, and MLC2006 compliance across the company s fleet. This role ensures alignment with international maritime conventions and flag state requirements, including oversight of internal audits, inspections, and certification processes in collaboration with vessel Masters/OIMs, flag administrations, and classification societies.
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory & Certification Support
- Administer all activities linked to ISM, ISPS, and MLC2006 framework agreements with certification bodies and contractual arrangements with flag administrations.
- Provide operational assistance to Masters/OIMs during ISM, ISPS, and MLC2006 certification processes and onboard audits.
- Conduct shipboard surveys, inspections, and assessments related to ISM, ISPS, and MLC2006 compliance, as required.
- Support vessels in managing and maintaining valid flag certificates and official documentation.
Audits and Inspections
- Execute internal ISM/ISPS audits and MLC2006 inspections in line with the annual audit plan or as necessitated.
- Ensure compliance with flag state requirements during internal audit and inspection processes.
- Report audit and inspection results accurately and promptly as per company procedures.
- Issue findings, ensure effective corrective actions are taken, and perform follow-ups for timely closure.
- Evaluate effectiveness of rectification measures and escalate non-conformities when necessary.
Flag Administration and Port State Control (PSC)
- Report vessel incidents to flag administrations as required by both company and flag state protocols.
- Oversee and manage flag state inspections and Port State Control activities, ensuring compliance with internal processes.
- Conduct onboard Minimum Safe Manning assessments in accordance with company procedures.
Documentation & Reporting
- Contribute to the development and revision of vessel documentation concerning safety, security, and labor systems.
- Maintain thorough and accurate record-keeping of audits, certificates, inspections, and reports.
- Submit timely reports and updates to internal and external stakeholders.
Market & Regulatory Research
- Conduct market research and analysis pertaining to maritime laws, regulatory changes, and best practices.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Naval Engineering or Engineering degree with marine experience and qualifications
- Certified ISM/ISPS Auditor and MLC2006 Inspector (mandatory). ISM-ISPS-MLC Internal Auditors as primary training required
- Minimum 5 years of maritime industry experience, with a strong background in vessel compliance, inspections, and flag administration.
- Familiarity with international maritime conventions, flag state regulations, and classification society standards.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of ISM, ISPS, and MLC2006 frameworks.
- Maritime Regulations generally and ISM-ISPS-MLC Specifically
- Experience interacting with flag state authorities and certification bodies.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency in maritime compliance management software/tools.
