Job description

Wanna join the adventure?
As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will be a key contributor to the successful assembly, integration, and testing (AIT) of satellites. You will define, develop, and implement efficient and reliable manufacturing processes, ensuring smooth satellite production from component-level integration to final system testing. You will collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and test engineers to drive improvements in process efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
About This Role:
  • AIT Process Development: Define and document the complete AIT flow for satellite manufacturing, including assembly sequences, integration procedures, and test protocols.
  • Develop detailed work instructions, process flow diagrams, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve quality.
  • Collaboration and Coordination: Work closely with mechanical engineers to ensure design for manufacturability and ease of assembly.
  • Collaborate with test engineers to define test requirements and develop test fixtures and equipment.
  • Coordinate with procurement and supply chain teams to ensure timely availability of materials and components.
  • Coordinate with quality control teams to ensure manufacturing processes meet all required standards.
  • Facility Setup and Equipment Selection: Assist in the planning and setup of the satellite manufacturing facility, including cleanroom layout and equipment selection.
  • Evaluate and recommend manufacturing equipment, tools, and fixtures.
  • Oversee the installation, calibration, and maintenance of manufacturing equipment.
  • Process Optimization and Troubleshooting: Monitor and analyze manufacturing processes to identify bottlenecks and areas for improvement.
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement preventive measures to address recurring issues.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date manufacturing documentation, including process records, test reports, and equipment logs.
  • Prepare regular reports on manufacturing performance, process improvements, and progress.
  • Contribute to the creation of "as-built" documentation for all manufactured hardware.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, industry standards, and internal quality procedures.
  • Implement and enforce safety protocols in the manufacturing facility to maintain a safe working environment.
Must Haves:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, with a focus on aerospace, defense, or high-tech industries.
  • Strong understanding of satellite AIT processes, manufacturing principles, process development, and quality control.
  • Experience with space qualification testing procedures and standards, thermal vacuum testing, thermal ambient testing, and vibration testing.
  • Experience with cleanroom procedures and protocols.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and manufacturing simulation tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
Nice to Haves:
  • Master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 and AS9100 quality standards.
  • Experience with DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and PFMEA (Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis).
Orbitworks' mission is to make space simple for organizations that want to deploy physical and virtual missions to space. Building on Loft Orbital's heritage, Orbitworks will be the first commercial firm in the United Arab Emirates to mass-manufacture satellites.
