Synopsis
The Manager Technical SMS (MT-SMS) reports to the Senior Manager Technical Safety & Compliance (SMTSC). MT-SMS is the interface with the Corporate Safety and Quality Department. He/She is familiar with, enforces, and follows the procedures stipulated in the Safety & Quality Management Manual System (SQMM) and actively participates in the Corporate Safety Management System.
The role requires communication across various leadership structures and with senior management representatives from external agencies.
Accountabilities
• Collaborate with the Corporate Safety and Quality Department to coordinate with the Competent Authority and other external agencies on regulations impacting the Corporate SMS. Liaise with relevant departments within the airline and EY Technical to develop, implement, and update safety policies and procedures.
• Promote the regulatory compliance framework, quality control, SMS, safety reporting, safety culture, and behaviors within EY Technical. Support the Accountable Manager and Post Holders in reviewing and defining Safety Objectives and Safety Performance Indicators (SPIs) annually, and disseminate them to EY Technical personnel.
• Provide periodic reports on Safety and Quality activities to Post Holders and executives, including data for safety and airworthiness meetings such as MESAG.
• Manage and support trend analysis of Safety and Quality data within EY Technical organization, and recommend interventions, risk mitigation, and assurance mechanisms.
• Disseminate safety information (e.g., Safety Objectives, SPIs) to contractors, subcontractors, and stakeholders.
• Administer MESAG meetings and coordinate information with the Safety Review Board (SRB). Maintain good relationships with Safety Action Group (SAG) stakeholders.
• Conduct safety briefings within EY Technical to discuss safety issues, trends, hazards, and occurrences through meetings or Town Halls.
• Assist business units with hazard identification, risk assessment, mitigation strategies, and assurance mechanisms (CAPA).
Education & Experience
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Aviation, or Maintenance Engineering License with Diploma in Aircraft Maintenance & Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years in the aviation industry, with at least 5+ years managing or implementing an SMS.
• Extensive knowledge of SMS and completed appropriate SMS training.
• Good understanding of civil aviation regulations (CAR X, CAR M, CAR 145, CAR 66, CAR 147, EASA/FAA equivalents).
• Experience in safety/quality audits and inspections.
• Experience in Aviation Safety Investigation is desirable.
