Overview

Space42 (ADX: SPACE42) is a UAE-based AI-powered SpaceTech company that integrates satellite communications, geospatial analytics, and artificial intelligence capabilities to monitor Earth from space. Established in 2024 following the merger of Bayanat and Yahsat, Space42 serves clients in government, enterprise, and community sectors worldwide.

Role Purpose

The Manager of Payload Systems will lead a multidisciplinary team managing all payload-related activities for the Space42 satellite fleet, including procurement, design, analysis, integration, testing, and operations. Reporting to the Head of Space Segment Engineering, the role involves collaboration with R&D, Operations, Strategy, and Business Intelligence teams to optimize payload systems for platform efficiency and product reliability. The role also supports small satellite projects in Space42 Space Lab and KUSTIC.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Payload Systems team in managing design, procurement, integration, and testing for satellite payloads, ensuring optimal system performance.
  • Define and validate technical requirements for communication payloads and TT&C subsystems aligned with mission and customer needs.
  • Support payload system operations and resolve technical anomalies.
  • Evaluate payload component suppliers, manage RFI/RFP/BAFO processes, and negotiate to maximize value and innovation.
  • Stay informed on industry technology trends, benchmarks, and supplier roadmaps.
  • Document lessons learned to inform future procurement and design cycles.
  • Prepare reports and briefings for leadership and stakeholders on project status and performance.
  • Assist in feasibility studies for new missions, collaborating with AI/ML and satellite engineering teams.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
  • Develop training plans for team members, emphasizing AI, analytics, and system integration skills.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields.
  • Advanced degrees or certifications such as PhD, PMP, Six Sigma, or Space Systems Engineering are preferred.
  • 8-10+ years of experience in satellite payload systems engineering, integration, or mission operations within space or telecom sectors.
  • Experience with AI and advanced analytics in payload or satellite systems.
  • Deep knowledge of RF, communication, and TT&C systems design and integration.
  • Experience with AI/ML, cloud, or edge computing in space or defense contexts is advantageous.

Additional Requirements

  • Proven leadership skills, including managing engineering teams and cross-functional projects.
  • Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong project management and organizational abilities.
  • Proficiency in requirements management, technical documentation, and risk analysis tools.
  • Experience working with global stakeholders and partners on large, multinational projects.
  • Familiarity with industry standards like CCSDS, ECSS, ISO, etc.
  • Advanced skills in MS Office, MS Project, BI software, and familiarity with payload analysis tools.
