Role Context

The Manager – Mechanical Design plays an important technical role in ensuring that mechanical systems are practical, efficient, compliant and aligned with the long‑term performance goals of major development projects. The position supports the MEP Design Lead by reviewing consultant outputs, resolving design coordination issues, improving buildability and helping projects move from concept design to construction and handover with fewer risks. The role also contributes to sustainability targets, digital design adoption and Net Zero initiatives by encouraging smarter engineering decisions across mechanical systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Review mechanical design packages for HVAC, plumbing, drainage, firefighting, gas systems, and related building services to confirm accuracy, completeness and technical quality.
• Coordinate mechanical systems with architectural, structural, electrical and other MEP disciplines so that designs are integrated before construction begins.
• Examine BIM models, drawings, coordination files and clash detection reports using Navisworks and similar digital design tools.
• Check that mechanical designs follow project briefs, Majid Al Futtaim design standards, UAE authority requirements and applicable international codes.
• Assess design constructability and recommend value engineering options that improve cost control, system performance, energy efficiency and sustainability outcomes.
• Review specifications, calculations, reports, shop drawings, material submissions, method statements and other technical documents.
• Support project teams during construction through site visits, design clarifications, technical guidance, issue resolution and review of mock‑ups.
• Work closely with consultants, internal stakeholders, contractors and project delivery teams to manage design risks and close technical comments on time.
• Participate in design coordination meetings and provide clear mechanical engineering input on project challenges, design changes and technical decisions.
• Promote continuous improvement within the mechanical discipline by sharing lessons learned, supporting innovation and improving design review practices.
• Help ensure that mechanical systems support operational efficiency, maintainability, lifecycle performance and sustainability targets after handover.

Ideal Profile

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• 5-7 years of mechanical design experience across retail, residential, mixed‑use, commercial or large‑scale development projects.
• Strong understanding of HVAC, plumbing, drainage, firefighting, gas systems and MEP design coordination.
• Experience across the full project lifecycle, including design review, coordination, technical documentation, construction support and handover.
• Good knowledge of UAE regulations, local authority requirements, mechanical design standards and relevant international codes.
• GCC or MENA project experience preferred, especially within major real estate development environments.
• Experience reviewing BIM models, resolving design clashes and working with Navisworks or similar coordination platforms.
• Membership in a recognized professional body such as CIBSE or ASHRAE preferred.
• LEED, BREEAM or other sustainability‑related certification an advantage.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical issues clearly to consultants, contractors and internal project teams.
• Practical mindset with the ability to balance design quality, cost, constructability, performance and sustainability.
