Job Purpose
Oversee and lead all aspects of K9 security operations, ensuring the effective utilization and management of trained canines for security purposes. Responsibilities include designing specialized training programs for K9 handlers, maintaining compliance with local regulations regarding K9 operations, and integrating canine units into broader security protocols to enhance safety measures and response capabilities.
Essential Duties
Operations Leadership
- Effectively exercise independent decision making, as a subject matter expert under stress.
- Conduct benchmark studies to identify / adopt best practices for operational units under mandate.
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of local regulations to ensure full operational compliance.
- Perform regular reviews of existing practices and conditions, identifying gaps against best practices.
- Research and recommend new technologies and systems to improve operational efficiency.
- Develop comprehensive policies and procedures for operations, and implementation processes.
- Establish strategic objectives and supporting key performance indicators for operations team.
- Design and implement supporting forms using modern methods to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Create manpower and equipment schedules that optimize performance and resource allocation.
- Develop code-compliant business proposals aligned with best practices and organizational goals.
- Prepare budget forecasts to support business proposals and operational planning.
- Submit purchase orders for necessary equipment, ensuring alignment with budget.
- Maintain strong relationships with government emergency services and regulatory authorities.
- Maintain an awareness of applicable regulation and ensure compliance.
K9 Security Program
- Oversee the design and delivery of K9 security training curricula.
- Ensure K9 training complies with established policies and procedures.
- Coordinate and evaluate the effectiveness of K9 training sessions and workshops.
- Supervise and mentor K9 handlers and training team members.
- Maintain accurate records of K9 certifications and training progress.
- Identify gaps in K9 training and propose improvement strategies tailored to operational needs.
- Develop and implement K9-specific training programs aligned with organizational goals.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to align K9 training with security operational requirements.
- Prepare reports on K9 training outcomes and areas for enhancement.
- Ensure K9 training facilities and operations meet professional standards and compliance regulations.
- Assist with hiring processes for K9 security personnel, including interviews, assessments, and onboarding.
- Manage the Field Training Officer (FTO) program for K9 operations, including policy creation and curriculum development.
- Establish and track recertification programs for K9 handlers and operations teams.
- Oversee ordering and inventory of K9-related supplies and training equipment.
- Coordinate and complete off-property K9 training programs with third-party vendors.
Education
- Preferred: Bachelor's degree in security or related fields.
Experience
- Required: Minimum 5 years’ experience in K9 training and handling for explosive detection.
- Preferred: Minimum 5 years' experience in security management.
- Preferred: Prior law enforcement or military experience managing K9 units.

- Expertise in maintaining K9 health, including diet, exercise, and veterinary care.
- Familiarity with protocols for deploying K9 units in various security scenarios.
- Awareness of legal and regulatory requirements for K9 operations.
- Proficiency in handling and managing K9 equipment and facilities.
- Experience in evaluating K9 performance and implementing improvement plans.
- Adeptness in coordinating K9 teams during emergency response situations.
