Job summary

AMERICAN HOSPITAL in Dubai seeks a Medical Coder to ensure accurate ICD coding for inpatient, day surgery and outpatient encounters. You will abstract demographics and medical information, and prepare data for billing according to DHA e-claims guidelines.

Responsibilities include coding accuracy, pursuing physician clarification when needed, and handling self-pay and insurance batches daily. English proficiency and UAE insurance knowledge are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in any field; medical preferred.
• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) accreditation.
• 0–1 year of ICD-9-CM/ICD-10 coding experience in claims handling.
• Knowledge of UAE Health Insurance Policy Terms and Coverage.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Outlook, Word).
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Encode diagnoses and procedures using ICD-9-CM/ICD-10 and CPT-4 when reviewing claims for billing.
• Create abstracts of demographics and medical information for the coding/abstracting system.
• Review electronic statements for prescribed diagnostics and pharmacy items.
• Send physician queries to clarify documentation and medical necessity.
• Ensure documentation supports coding to highest specificity/severity.
• Maintain confidentiality of department activities and productivity targets.
• Close and dispatch insurance, corporate, and self-pay batches per schedule.
