About the Job:

The role involves being a qualified and licensed person on board the ship, who is not a crew member but brings local knowledge and maritime expertise to ensure safe, environmentally sound, reliable, and optimized transfer operations of oil and gas cargos between tanker ships and offshore terminal facilities. The person is responsible for supervising and monitoring the terminal and ship’s conditions before and during cargo transfer to ensure operations are within safe and approved parameters.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Job Specific Accountabilities 1
  • Review cargo transfer plans with ship’s officers before operations to ensure safety precautions are considered.
  • Measure atmosphere in ship’s tanks prior to transfer to ensure safety limits are maintained.
  • Coordinate transfer rates between shore and ship to adhere to agreed parameters.
  • Inspect mooring arrangements to ensure safety and stability during transfer.
  • Monitor weather forecasts to plan for adverse conditions.
  • Provide guidance and direction to shore team members onboard for safety.
Job Specific Accountabilities 2
  • Provide training and coaching to trainees, pilots, loading masters, and evaluate performance for development.
  • Act as the company’s representative onboard, signing relevant documentation.
  • Liaise with ship’s masters, operators, agents, and regulatory bodies regarding cargo operations.
  • Assist in non-piloting administrative functions related to port activities.
Minimum Qualification:
  • At least 10 years of sea experience, including 2 years commanding deep draft ships or harbor tugs.
  • Maritime certificate of competency required by the port authority, issued by the pilotage authority.
  • Class 1 certificate of competency – Master mariner or equivalent approved by the pilotage authority.
  • Professional certifications including a pilotage license for the relevant port, passing written exams, simulator exercises, and training on vessel types and docking facilities.
