Job description

The Lifting Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all lifting operations on-site to ensure that they are carried out safely, efficiently, and in compliance with relevant regulations and standards. The role includes planning lifts, supervising the lifting crew, and enforcing safety procedures during crane and rigging operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise all lifting activities on site to ensure compliance with HSE regulations and company procedures.
  • Ensure all lifting operations are carried out according to the approved Lifting Plan and Method Statements.
  • Coordinate with crane operators, riggers, signalmen, and other site personnel to execute lifts safely.
  • Inspect lifting equipment and accessories (slings, shackles, hooks, etc.) before use to ensure they are certified, fit for purpose, and properly maintained.
  • Confirm that crane operators and riggers are qualified and certified.
  • Review and verify lifting plans and risk assessments for critical and non-critical lifts.
  • Conduct toolbox talks and safety briefings before lifting operations commence.
  • Stop any unsafe lifting operations immediately and report hazards or incidents to the Safety Officer or Site Manager.
  • Maintain daily reports/logs of lifting activities, equipment inspections, and incidents.
  • Liaise with project management, subcontractors, and clients regarding lift coordination and safety compliance.

Requirements:

Education:

  • High School Diploma or Technical Certificate (minimum).
  • Certification in Lifting Supervision from an approved training body (e.g., CITB, NPORS, LEEA, or equivalent).

Experience:

  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in lifting operations, including supervisory responsibilities.
  • Experience with mobile, crawler, and tower cranes in construction or industrial environments.

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Strong knowledge of lifting techniques, equipment, and rigging practices.
  • Thorough understanding of local and international lifting safety standards (e.g., LOLER, BS7121, OSHA).
  • Ability to interpret lifting plans, load charts, and technical drawings.
  • Leadership and team coordination skills.
  • Proficient in reporting and documentation.
