Job Summary:

To assist the library manager in promoting and developing the college library in order to provide an effective service to its students and employees. The librarian performs a variety of professional and clerical tasks. The tasks include sorting and shelving books, issuing and receiving library materials, registering patrons to permit them to borrow books, periodicals, and other library materials, etc.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the department manager in reviewing required materials for selection and acquisition, and to make recommendations for the selection of a wide range of book, periodical, and audio-visual materials.
  • Lend learning resources to students and staff.
  • Organize and maintain assigned collections.
  • Make suggestions according to the College library policies on weeding, mending, and replacing materials.
  • Assist in developing and presenting a wide range of library programming.
  • Coordinate with the Manager of the Learning Resource Center and Senior Librarian in ensuring that the Library remains on the cutting edge of information technology.
  • Distribute for acquisition publishers’ catalogs to maintain the standard and update the library resources.
  • Monitor the quality of materials received from the commercial bindery.
  • Prepare and process library materials for binding.
  • Maintain non-print materials and equipment; assist in identifying and locating audio-visual materials for library users.
  • Maintain stock, review space needs, and make recommendations for planning and execution of shifts.
  • Provide reference and reader's advisory services, and instruct patrons in the use of library resources, including reference materials, catalogs, computers, and the interlibrary loan system.
  • Respond to patron suggestions, questions, and complaint about library services and the collection, or refers appropriate questions to the administration.
  • Assist in the development of library policies and procedures.
  • Assist the library manager in interpreting and enforcing the updated policy and modification of work procedures for a specific task within the College library and learning resources unit.
  • Notify the library manager regarding the incidents were students breach library rules/ regulations.
  • Assist the library manager to conduct studies and prepare required reports.
  • Ensure the Library collection is dynamic and reflective of the current curriculum needs of the College through the addition of appropriate materials and the removal of inappropriate items.
  • Contribute towards providing quality library services by identifying best practices & benchmarking.
  • Collaborate with the Library Manager in providing links to e-resources to the students in the College’s Learning Management System.
  • Train students in the use of e-resources in order to help them gain fast & easy access to high-quality, comprehensive information.
  • Perform cataloging and classification of books in the library.
  • Responsible for cataloging print and non-print materials according to content and purpose.
  • Maintain billing records for invoices and payments received.
  • Maintain records and statistics and submit reports as required.
  • Create and edit bibliographic records in all formats using best practice standards when it is requested.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Must have knowledge in and be able to operate a Computer System.
  • Planning and coordinating activities related to library operation.
  • Library and organization skills necessary to order, receive and maintain materials for the library collections.

Academic Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in Library & Information Science from a recognized University or College.
