Job Description
The Legal Operations Director provides legal support, services, and advice on all legal matters including contracting, commercial, governance, and regulation. The role also involves ensuring adherence to University policies and representing HBMSU in legal matters as required.
Responsibilities include:
- Assisting in achieving University goals, ensuring compliance, and providing proactive legal advice on issues like contracts, dispute resolution, funding, agreements, and governance.
- Collaborating with departments on policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance and effective workflow.
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating agreements and legal documents to secure beneficial contractual positions.
- Providing legal and compliance support in areas such as law analysis, legal advice, compliance monitoring, and tracking systems.
- Reviewing ongoing legal cases, contracts, and documentation, assessing implications for management.
- Counseling management on legal interpretations and applications of contracts and statutory provisions.
- Preparing cases for litigation and managing relationships with external advocates.
- Responding to government or third-party queries as instructed.
- Recommending and implementing policies to minimize legal and regulatory risks.
- Developing guidelines for legal instruments and managing breaches and defaults in contracts.
- Providing input on legal risk mitigation strategies and structuring initiatives to reduce risks.
- Overseeing legal services including counseling, review, drafting, and dispute avoidance.
- Ensuring legal risks are managed across departments and advising on legal implications of internal policies.
- Supporting corporate governance, business development, and operational functions like HR, facilities, data protection, and IT procurement.
- Participating in committees, preparing reports, and managing legal transactions and disputes.
- Handling legal matters related to lawsuits, arbitration, registration, liquidation, joint ventures, and acquisitions.
- Ensuring compliance with data protection laws and analyzing legal implications of case law and legislation.
Qualifications
Experience: At least 7 years of relevant legal experience.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Law or related field; Master’s degree is an advantage.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of Dubai Government HR law, UAE legal practices, and procedures.
- Ability to work in nuanced environments with diverse stakeholders.
