Legal Counsel – Dubai (DIFC)

Company Overview

elseco is a high technology specialty insurance underwriting agency and Lloyd’s Coverholder, headquartered in the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC). The company underwrites on behalf of over 50 insurance and reinsurance companies, including Lloyd’s syndicates, and employs approximately 90 professionals across Dubai, London, and Paris. Established in 2007, elseco has expanded from space insurance into aviation, energy, and accident & health insurance, with a strategic focus on insurtech platform development.

Job Purpose / Mandate

The successful candidate will join the legal team to support a wide array of corporate projects and daily activities across the group. The role requires adaptability to a dynamic environment, managing legal tasks independently, and acquiring knowledge across various legal domains to support the company's growth and operations.

Responsibilities
  1. Review, develop, and manage contracts including policies, TOBAs, and NDAs.
  2. Assist in the renewal of agency agreements annually.
  3. Support departments such as underwriting, HR, IT, claims, finance, and compliance from a legal perspective.
  4. Coordinate with the Compliance Officer on regulatory developments affecting the group.
  5. Contribute to corporate housekeeping and maintain legal records.
  6. Assist in structuring legal entities and structures, including in new jurisdictions.
  7. Handle conflict resolution and litigation processes, both operational and corporate.
  8. Provide legal support for strategic projects, ensuring compliance and proper implementation.
  9. Maintain comprehensive knowledge of company operations and legal documentation.
Knowledge and Skills
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in a law firm or as in-house counsel.
  • Graduate or postgraduate in law, preferably UK qualified.
  • Working knowledge of UAE laws, DIFC regulations, and common law principles.
  • Interest in learning and working with new legal and technological tools.
  • Team-oriented with a positive attitude and proactive approach.
  • Based in Dubai.
  • Knowledge of insurance law is advantageous.
