Job summary

A leading insurance provider is seeking a Legal Advisor with over 6 years of experience, preferably in health insurance. The role involves providing legal consultation, reviewing contracts, and managing litigation cases. The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor’s degree in law, with a Master's preferred, and possess excellent analytical and communication skills. Knowledge of Arabic is a plus. This position is based in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Job description

Role Purpose

Legal Advice and other Services

Provide timely expert legal consultation & advice on a wide range of legal matters including health insurance, corporate, commercial, employment, IT, IP, and International Law to management and BUs.

Assist on corporate and commercial matters; participate in key projects, business deals & negotiations.

Conduct research; deliver trainings and engage in other knowledge-sharing activities.

Perform translation (Arabic into English and English to Arabic) duties as required.

Establish and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Liaise with regulatory bodies and other public entities.

Update/develop Legal Affairs department’s policies & procedures & support in implementation.

Participate in meetings, work groups, and task forces on a departmental and company level.

Ensure advice is compliant with local/federal laws & regulations of the UAE and to Daman’s policies.

Contracting

Review, draft, and negotiate corporate commercial contracts, memoranda, official notices, and other legal instruments; prepare templates for contracts and forms.

Fraud and Abuse

Adjudicate fraud cases involving providers, members, suppliers, or Daman employees.

Assist business units with conducting investigations and fact-gathering sessions.

Advise on relevant fraud investigations in coordination with the escalating unit.

Take witness statements & escalate fraud cases to regulatory bodies & judicial authorities if necessary.

Work with Internal Audit and HR on matters of internal fraud or where required.

Ensure all fraud and abuse cases are handled in compliance with local and federal laws and regulations of the United Arab Emirates and with Daman’s policies.

Handle Daman’s litigation cases; prepare, review, and manage cases and maintain case files/log sheet.

Brief and instruct Daman’s legal panel firms; provide legal direction/supervision in relation to cases.

Advise management internally on potential and pending litigations or claims.

Participate in dispute resolution sessions with third parties.

Update senior management on any new cases discovered and keep them informed at all times.

Ensure that all litigation cases are handled in compliance with local and federal laws and regulations of the United Arab Emirates and with Daman’s policies.

Key Requirements and Qualifications

6+ years of experience in a similar role with excellent legal skills; preferably in health insurance.

Bachelor’s degree in law.

Master’s degree in Law is preferred.

Skills and Competencies

Excellent analytical, planning, execution, and problem-solving skills.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills including presentation skills.

Very good command of written and spoken English; knowledge of Arabic language is an advantage.

Solid understanding of commercial concepts.

Ability to multi-task and prioritize issues.

Results-oriented whilst ensuring high quality of work and able to “think out of the box”.

Strong level of professionalism in all interactions.

Good knowledge of health insurance concepts.

Good knowledge of Microsoft applications.

Up-to-date knowledge of the law in areas of special interest to Daman.
