Job description

Wood is currently recruiting for an experienced Lead Workpack Engineer (I&C) as part of our Construction team within our Oil, Gas & New Energies business based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Due to the nature of the projects and client expectations, the position will be full-time onshore site based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Objectives :

  • Lead the formulation and implementation of the overall Construction / Implementation Plan, developing a work packaging / purchasing strategy and performing activities needed to select sub-contractors, construct the facility, and pre-commission it for startup. Involved in every stage, from initiation through commissioning and startup of a project.

Responsibilities :

  • Lead constructability input to engineering teams by optimizing construction knowledge and experience to reduce costs, improve quality, safety, and productivity, shorten schedules.
  • Assist in developing the PMP / PEP, bid submissions, construction methodology, and strategies.
  • Provide construction technical support throughout FEED and detailed design phases, acting as a technical authority in construction discipline.
  • Guide project controls in developing the build sequence / construction schedule and proactively manage schedule risks.
  • Contribute to contracting strategy and bid clarification processes.
  • Lead the constructability team, overseeing conversion of engineering designs into workpacks and directing team efforts.
  • Ensure delivery of construction deliverables to meet technical standards, facilitating site activities.

Qualifications and Experience :

  • Typically qualified to ISCED Level 6 (Bachelors) in engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum 15 years relevant experience in onshore oil and gas processing
  • Strong technical knowledge of construction processes
  • Ability to identify and mitigate delivery risks
  • Expertise in interpreting discipline documentation and conducting risk assessments (HAZOPS, HAZIDS)
  • Understanding of technical specifications and business drivers
  • Experience in supervising and managing teams, motivating, and performance management
