What Does a Lead Project Engineer Do?

  1. Lead engineering teams across mechanical, piping, EIT, and structural disciplines for marine new build and conversion projects
  2. Manage technical scope for complex systems including LNG, oil & gas, and cryogenic handling operations
  3. Oversee the preparation of design documentation, material specifications, equipment sizing, and vendor data reviews
  4. Supervise third-party engineering subcontractors and coordinate package engineering deliverables
  5. Review technical quotations, perform FATs, and ensure quality compliance with classification bodies
  6. Monitor engineering progress, man-hour budgets, and deliverables against project milestones
  7. Prepare and manage engineering schedules, reporting, and design review documentation
  8. Ensure safe and cost-effective solutions for machinery spaces, mechanical installations, and equipment support systems
  9. Act as the project engineering manager on large-scale marine conversion scopes
  10. Ensure engineering compliance with IACS, SOLAS, and classification society regulations

What Are the Key Responsibilities?

  1. Develop and review equipment datasheets, mechanical design calculations, and system layouts
  2. Coordinate with vendors and clients during equipment selection and project execution
  3. Deliver integrated engineering solutions across piping, mechanical, EIT, and structural systems
  4. Provide technical leadership during design reviews and manage interdisciplinary coordination
  5. Generate project schedules, man-hour estimates, and track engineering productivity
  6. Conduct risk assessments, prepare meeting minutes, and submit technical reports to management
  7. Implement department SOPs, maintain compliance with safety standards, and promote best engineering practices

What Skills Are Needed for a Lead Project Engineer in Dubai?

Education:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Marine, or any related Engineering discipline
  2. Project Management certification is an added advantage

Experience:

  1. Minimum 10 years in marine, offshore, or EPC engineering, including at least 5 years in leadership roles
  2. Proven track record in LNG or oil and gas conversions, shipyard engineering, or major marine projects
  3. Experience with process systems involving cryogenic fluids, LNG liquefaction, or regasification

Technical Skills:

  1. Strong knowledge of piping systems, heat exchangers, pumps, compressors, pressure control devices
  2. Proficient in AutoCAD, Microsoft Project, and engineering calculation tools
  3. Knowledge of EIT integration, structural engineering, and equipment installation methods
  4. Familiarity with classification society rules (e.g., ABS, DNV, BV), IACS, SOLAS, and IMO regulations

Soft Skills:

  1. Excellent team leadership and coordination abilities
  2. Effective communicator with strong planning and organizational skills
  3. Capable of handling multiple engineering scopes across concurrent projects
  4. Analytical mindset with a solution-oriented approach
