About the role

As Soter's Lead Pricing Actuary, we are seeking an individual who combines both technical acumen and creative problem-solving to help us build pricing models and frameworks from the ground up. The right individual will thrive in a dynamic environment and is eager to help shape the future of insurance for institutional clients in the digital asset economy.

This role will report to our Head of Underwriting and may be based in Bermuda, New York, Dubai, or London. The compensation package for this role will include a competitive base salary, equity, and more. The final package will be determined based on location, experience, and demonstrated skills.

What you'll do

1. Develop and refine pricing models and methodologies for innovative insurance products including but not limited to loss of digital assets and third-party liability risks, as well as bespoke and novel products.
2. Research and collaborate cross-functionally to develop rating factors using alternative and proxy data sources (e.g., on-chain analytics, smart contract audits, governance data).
3. Create and maintain actuarial models for rate indications and parameterization for internal capital models.
4. Perform profitability analysis, monitor underwriting results, and create actual vs. expected dashboards.
5. Design flexible pricing strategies and deal structures that adapt to emerging risks and market volatility in the crypto ecosystem.
6. Stay current with trends in blockchain, digital assets, and decentralized finance to inform risk assessment strategies.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of pricing experience in Property & Casualty Re / Insurance, ideally with exposure to specialty or financial lines or treaty pricing.
• Proficiency in Python, Julia, R, Excel, or computational statistics; familiarity with actuarial tools like Emblem, Radar, or Prophet is a plus.
• Strong understanding of insurance pricing methodologies, credibility theory, and portfolio risk management.
• Analytical mindset with experience handling limited or nontraditional datasets.
• Familiarity with or strong interest in blockchain technology, DeFi, crypto trading, and/or staking mechanisms.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced startup environment.

Nice to Haves

• Associate or Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (ASA/FCAS), Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries (FIA), Fellow of the Faculty of Actuaries (FFA), or equivalent actuarial designation.
• Experience pricing insurance products in emerging or underserved markets.
• Background in crypto, cybersecurity, fintech, or risk consulting.
• Understanding of regulatory implications related to crypto insurance.
• Experience in captives and alternative risk transfer solutions.
