Overview
Wood is recruiting for a Lead Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Sharjah, UAE. This is a full-time office-based role with business trips.
Responsibilities
- Definition and approval of technical scopes.
- Executing assigned scopes of work and supervising complex engineering tasks.
- Providing technical expertise to the business and acting as a technical specialist or Lead Engineer on projects.
- Contributing to business growth and managing or guiding teams as required.
- Performing complex assignments often requiring development of new or improved products, processes or techniques.
- Assessing feasibility and soundness of proposed designs, products, and equipment.
- Producing engineering deliverables with minimal guidance and direction; serving as Technical Authority when appointed.
- Developing applications, hypotheses and approaches to solve unique engineering problems; directing qualified professionals on complex projects.
- Providing technical reviews and guidance for consulting projects, including management of client relationships, cost, schedule, resources and risk.
Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities
- Assists in establishing project aims and outcomes and improves planning efficiency.
- Evaluates procedures and recommends changes to planning and scheduling.
- Makes recommendations on project organization, methods and technical innovations.
Providing Technical Expertise
- Advises on design processes, construction methods and development of new engineering methods.
- Performs Technical Bid Evaluation and may oversee vendors; acts as Technical Authority when appointed.
- Maintains awareness of technical advancements and fosters a culture of technical excellence.
Contributing to Business Growth
- Engages with clients and pursues opportunities to expand Wood’s scope of work.
- Contributes to engineering bids and proposals.
Manage And Supervise Others
- Supervises technical specialists or engineers and provides direction to project teams.
- Recruits, mentors, and manages performance; ensures compliance with competence standards.
- Allocates resources and oversees subcontracted design engineering; provides HSSE leadership.
Working Relationships
- Internal: builds productive relationships across offices and regions; interfaces with project engineers and proposal groups.
- External: develops client relationships and collaborates with professionals to meet project goals.
Level Of Influence & Decision-Making Authority
- Influences medium-term technical, operational and financial results; exercises mature judgment in complex situations.
- May supervise a group of engineers or act as an expert, providing coaching and guidance.
- Responsible for accuracy and timelines of work produced by the team.
Qualifications

Expected
- B.S. or equivalent degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited university.
- Minimum of 15+ years relevant experience in major Brownfield oil & gas projects, including at least five (5) years in a similar position.
Knowledge, Skills And Experience
- Experience on Oil and Gas projects across their lifecycle in the GCC region is preferred.
- Pre-FEED, FEED experience required; Detailed Engineering experience preferred.

- Technical competence in own discipline and ongoing professional development.
- Knowledge of regulatory frameworks and ability to supervise and mentor staff.
- Multidisciplinary knowledge and experience with quality management; capable of overseeing scope, budget and schedule.
