Job description

Position Title : Lead Control and Instrument Engineer

Reports To : Project Engineering Manager / Project Manager

Location : Dubai, UAE

Employment Type : Contract – 3 years minimum

About the Role :

We are currently seeking a highly experienced Lead Control and Instrument Engineer to join our Oil and Gas client’s Engineering team. This key role involves leading the Control and Instrumentation design scope for major projects, ensuring the delivery of safe, compliant, and technically sound engineering solutions.

As a senior member of the project team, you will take responsibility for discipline-specific deliverables, contractor oversight, and maintaining alignment with project objectives, technical specifications, and international standards.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Lead the development and execution of Control and Instrument engineering deliverables in line with the project scope and design basis.
  • Ensure all discipline-related designs comply with applicable standards; manage deviations and secure necessary approvals from the relevant Technical Authorities.
  • Demonstrate a visible commitment to exceptional Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (HSSE) practices.
  • Review vendor equipment performance guarantees and provide technical guidance during procurement and manufacturing.
  • Participate in HAZID, HAZOP, design reviews, and model reviews.
  • Evaluate and approve discipline deliverables; follow up on feedback to ensure integration.
  • Drive incorporation of lessons learned from previous projects into the current design process.
  • Monitor schedule adherence for engineering deliverables and recommend corrective actions when necessary.
  • Support readiness for commissioning, handover, and operations in collaboration with operations and commissioning teams.
  • Engage in technical bid evaluations and contribute to procurement strategies as required.
  • Oversee change management activities and variation order reviews specific to Control and Instrumentation.
  • Coordinate team discipline priorities and activities throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications & Experience :

  • Degree-qualified Engineer in a relevant field.
  • Preferably Chartered / Professional Engineer status.
  • Extensive experience in Control and Instrumentation within the oil and gas industry.
  • Proven ability to work across multidisciplinary teams in high-value, technically complex projects.
  • Experience with engineering contractors and vendor engagement processes.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills with a proactive, results-oriented approach.
  • Familiarity with international engineering standards and project execution frameworks
