Job description

The main role of a Landscape Architect is to plan and design open spaces including inner-city squares, shopping centers, parks, coastline, and countryside. The aim is to produce pleasant places to live, work, and relax that are environmentally friendly and sustainable.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Using creativity and the beauty of nature, designing outdoor spaces that are not just aesthetically pleasing but practical, too. Areas may include personal lawns, parks, highways, walkways, hotels, villas, beaches, and more.
  2. Confer with clients, engineers, and building architects to understand a project.
  3. Provide various predesigned services which may include conducting feasibility and environmental impact studies, selecting a site, or specifying the requirements the design must meet.
  4. Determining cost estimates to include work and materials to assist the client in making decisions about the project at hand.
  5. Coordinate the arrangement of existing and proposed land features and structures.
  6. Drawing maps that accurately show where other buildings and trees are, then design and plan around them. These drawings include walkways, fountains, new plants and buildings, and other decorations.
  7. Use IT tools in designing and project management, specifically using software packages such as Computer Aided Design (CAD).
  8. Gathering and analyzing data about the area, such as soil conditions, geography, amount of sunlight overall and during certain times of day, other structures, drainage, and more.
  9. Overseeing construction work to ensure that the work matches the plans. Resolve problems and issues that arise during construction.
  10. Creating restoration plans for areas of nature that have been disrupted by humans.
  11. Conduct periodic on-site observation of work during construction to monitor compliance with plans.
  12. Determine and take into account local, state, and federal guidelines that must be followed, such as those in place to protect wetlands or historic areas.

Job Requirements:

Education and Formal Training:

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in landscape design or landscape architecture is required; licensure is not necessarily required to work as a landscape designer.

Work Experience:

  • 3-5 Years of landscape and urban design experience, preferably in the Gulf region.
  • Excellent knowledge of design and visualization software such as Computer Aided Design (CAD).

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Able to communicate ideas and recommendations to clients and non-engineer team members in a precise and clear manner.

  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and in collaboration with different teams.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • High standard of excellence and attention to detail.
