Job description

The Lab Instructor, Applied Communications, supports faculty and students within one or more Media / Design / Broadcasting / Communication programs by maintaining the Department's equipment, facilities, including studios, laboratories, and workshops. The role involves running, monitoring, and evaluating studio, workshop, and lab hours to familiarize students with equipment, tools, and operations. The incumbent is responsible for installation, demonstration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of equipment and facilities. This hands-on role requires working closely with faculty and students in studios, workshops, and laboratories. The Lab Instructor prepares the studios, workshops, and labs for projects and experiments, including up to 10 hours per week of instructional duties.

Requirements

  • Preference for candidates with at least 3 years of relevant hands-on experience in Broadcast, Media, Design, or Training industries.
  • Experience supervising small studio and outside broadcast operations.
  • Proficiency in various software used in Applied Media, especially Adobe products.
  • Ability to work in both Windows and Mac environments.
  • Practical knowledge of instruments, devices, equipment, and facilities used within studios, labs, and workshops.
  • Experience with still/video cameras, TV and radio studio operations, printers, projectors, and educational technology tools.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of studio operations and safety protocols.
  • High computer literacy and ability to integrate technology in the workplace.
