Job summary

Petrochem Performance Chemicals in Abu Dhabi is seeking a Laboratory Technician to assist the Laboratory Manager in routine drilling fluids analyses and R&D support. You will perform chemical and physical testing on mud systems, compile data, and report findings to supervisors.

The role emphasizes ISO/QMS compliance, training of junior staff, and day-to-day lab operations with a focus on quality and safety in a dynamic oilfield environment.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years of laboratory experience in drilling fluids or chemicals.
• Bachelor’s degree in Organic Chemistry, General Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience with QA/QC and ISO documentation.

Responsibilities

• Perform QA/QC of drilling fluid chemicals and samples.
• Conduct chemical and physical testing of mud systems.
• Prepare technical service reports and communicate results.
• Maintain ISO documentation and QMS in the lab.
• Operate and calibrate lab instruments daily.

Job Objective :-

Assists the Laboratory Manager/Supervisors in performing routine laboratory drilling fluids checks, including chemical, physical or electrical analysis running tests or troubleshooting processes or procedures in support of R&D, QA, Engineering, Manufacturing, Technical and Operations.

Key Responsibilities/Duties :-

Responsible for following aspects on Lab:

1. QA/QC of drilling fluid chemicals (barite, bentonite, bio-polymers, Starch, Etc.)
2. Able to mix mud systems (SOBM and WBM)
3. Able to mix and prepare solutions in different concentrations
4. Chemical and physical testing of Mud Systems (SOBM and WBM)
5. Well clean up additives testing
6. Corrosion coupons testing
7. Sag testing
8. Cuttings testing:
9. Hot Roll Dispersion Test
10. Cuttings Cleaning
11. Accretion Test
12. Cuttings Hardness Test
13. Cuttings Activity by hygrometer

• Works independently in the laboratory at times, although mainly under general supervision and works within a team to complete projects.
• Guide to laboratory personnel in compiling, analyzing and interpreting results for internal/external customers and communicates results to supervisor in detailed manner
• Writes detailed Technical Service Reports of test findings and submit these reports to the Laboratory Manager.
• Analysis of standard and complete drilling fluids on field samples, both water Base and Oil Base mud with different mud systems.
• Tender formulations in order to measure mud properties in different conditions of temperature and pressure such as Viscosity, Mud Weight, pH, Yield Point, Electrical Stability, Fluid Loss, Filter Cake.
• Chemical properties by testing and measuring the amount of Chloride, Ca++, Mg++, Total Hardness, Pf, Mf, Pm (alkalinity) and Lime content, MBT test and etc. and then report all data .
• Responsible for the training to the Field Engineers /Technicians /or newly hired lab- Technicians on different tests and equipment.
• In addition maintaining the ISO documentation and QMS implementation in laboratory
• Preparation of the laboratory test reports, R&D Technical project reports.
• Responsible for use of following equipments for the day-to-day operation and be responsible for calibration too:

1. High Temperature, High Pressure (HTHP) Viscometer Fann equipments
2. Malvern Mastersizer and LISST Particle size analyzers
3. OFITE and Fann Viscometers
4. Brookfield LVDV-II or LVDV-III
5. PPT, Permeability Plugging Test Producers
6. Lubricity Testers
7. Sticking test Meters
8. HTHP Filter Press (HTHP)
9. API Filter Press
10. Funnel Viscosity
11. Bulk Hardness Testers
12. Conductivity Meters
13. Centrifuges
14. Hygrometers
15. pH meters

Experience :-

2-5 years of Experience.

Educational Qualifications :-

Bachelor’s Degree Organic Chemistry, General Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or equivalent

Accountabilities and Performance Measures :-

• QA/QC - Perform Quality and Comply laboratory operation for testing of New Chemicals, Pre-shipment Chemicals, & incoming Goods (GRN samples) according to the Quality Standard.
• Technical Services - Formulate and analysis of formulation for various Tenders and win new clients and tenders.
• R&D - R&D and New Product & Method development.
• HSE & ISO - Maintain good HSE in laboratory. Create new MSDS, PB and Spec for newly developed products. Update MSDS records of all the existing products.
