Position Summary:
- The Lab Assistant manages labs, maintains the supply and equipment inventory, and ensures proper maintenance of the facilities, equipment, and introductory production classes. Additionally, the Lab assistant will assist the faculty members and head of departments when needed.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist faculty in planning for lab/equipment use.
- Coordinate with the Department Head and Dean to ensure that adequate funds are available to maintain or replace equipment, as well as supplies, and determine capital purchases.
- Liaise with faculty members in planning timetables, equipment requirements and work plans.
- Work with faculty to develop and improve classroom design, policies, storage, and technology.
- Maintain the academic lab schedule.
- Arrange maintenance of electronic equipment to keep it in proper working order.
- Develop and implement academic laboratory policies and procedures in conjunction with the Department Head.
- Notify the Department Chair of equipment problems that would require more than standard
- Maintenance.
- Assure his/her presence on site before students or other staff is given access to the site.
- Select, train, and supervise qualified student assistants.
- Develop best practices for equipment training and usage.
- Assist students with technical problems that occur beyond class content; answer questions about processes, equipment, and software.
- Diagnoses and troubleshoot problems, repair and upgrade technology as needed.
- Maintain a preventive maintenance system and repair schedule and monitor status.
- Troubleshoot and perform minor equipment repairs, send equipment out for repairs as needed, and check all incoming equipment for proper repair.
- Assist students who are working in special projects, independent studies, and research projects in the labs.
- Conduct equipment training workshops and orientations to enable students and faculty access to the site.
- Assist students with technical problems that occur beyond class content; answer questions about processes, equipment, and software.
Responsibilities may be carried out at either campus based on operational requirements.
